It's in beta, so it's not entirely perfect. Once we've tested to see if it can handle the demands of the forum, then cosmetic changes will come. The end product will be different. We're mainly concerned with ensuring that it will stay up.

I would personally be a fan of making it look as much like the current forum as possible, since that's what we're all used to. :)

Because the new site is NationStates' own site. This one is jolt's. Technically, we are just here because jolt allows us to stay... we are just houseguests, so to speak. :p

It's got some interesting features, and it'll probably encourage me to actually check my issues once in a while, what with a linky to them being on the sidebar.

This one is going. Nationstates is no longer attached to Jolt, Max has been working on alternative forum arrangements in the meantime.

Yeah but as I said, we are like 2 thirds of the people that visit the jolt forums, so I doubt they're going to drop us any time soon. In the mean time, I like to say that I have contributed my part to that new forum for now. :p

When that forum becomes the only one we can use, I don't think I'll be posting any more. I don't like the layout, I don't like the colour, I don't like the lack of ability to choose a separate avatar to your flag, and for some reason looking at it for more than five minutes invariably gives me a headache.

Not to say that any of the features described are actually bad. I'm just a very change-averse and slightly obsessive sort of person. You could make it the flashiest forum known to man and have a built-in giant space laser that evaporates any poster who trolls and I'd still probably hate it.

Psychotic Mongooses: In the new forum, right up the top right hand side of the index page is a little green thing that looks like "^A^" except the first pointy thing points down, I don't know how to make it do that here. Click on that and you can change the font size.

On the 1010102 thing; the new forums have a maximum width for images that you can post, IIRC it is 800 pixels. 1010102 was upset by this - he felt that this was "oppressing his right to be obnoxious", and that's verbatim - and tried to image spam by posting multiple image macros all saying the same thing. For some reason he didn't think he'd have to suffer the consequences of being an idiot. He was misinformed. :P

We hope you guys will at least give it a whirl and try it out - we're pretty pleased with how it's going so far, and we want you to like it. And all you people complaining about how ugly it is are making me chuckle - I remember how people complained about it being ugly when we switched to these ones, way back in 2004. :D

But if you don't like it, that's also allowed (although it makes Baby Jesus cry). We won't forumban you for criticizing us. :)

Join dates are mostly transferred. Except if you've been around forever, then your nation is founded in Antiquity so it's only sort of there. Post counts do not remain. I know this because I tested it.

The date the new forums display is the date your nation was founded, which we started recording ... a while ago, I forget when. But some old fogies were founded before then, so we don't have that information, so those nations are founded "in antiquity".

The date the Jolt forums display, however, is the date you joined the forums. So if you created your nation and logged into the forums on the same day, they'd be the same date. But if you didn't bother joining the forums for a while, they'd be different.

The decision to display the nation founding date was made because we're trying to provide an integrated whole, as opposed to a game with a forum tacked onto the side of it (like this place).

Yeah, I'm pretty sure if you were originally founded in Antiquity but you died and were rezzed after that it gives the date of your resurrection rather than the date of your creation.
