More to the point why doesn't the chicken lobby have as much influence?

Reports are coming in that Influenza A has been found in a White House staffer. I am assuming the staffer in question has been quarantined.

People need to remember an important fact:

No one has gotten Influenza A from an illegal immigrant or legal immigrant. All Americans who got the disease got it while they were in Mexico and brought back with them.
Michelle Malkin's use of Influenza A to score ideological political points is pretty disreputable.

NO AMERICAN HAS CONTRACTED INFLUENZA BY COMING IN CONTACT WITH IMMIGRANTS. THEY'VE BEEN GETTING IT FROM RELATIVES AND FRIENDS WHO MADE RECENT TRIPS TO MEXICO.

Reuters is reporting that White House officials have found a member of the staff does have Influenza A and he passed it to his family on returning on a crowded United Airlines flight from Mexico.
The Energy Secretary, who did have contact with the staffer, will be tested for the virus.


President Obama is advising staffers with flu like symptoms to stay home.

Actually influenza is divided into three classes: Influenza A, B, and C. The H#N# refer to the Hemagluttinin and Neuraminidase. The virus is classified as Influenza A/H1N1. For more disambiguation, the animal and the location where it first arose is included too.

Reports out of California indicate that Influenza A may be actually be two different viruses.

California medical professionals are now saying that the virus that was discovered in california has features that are different from the virus in Mexico. They looked into it after America's first victim that he had never been to Mexico.

The idea that California might be breeding ground for new viruses should not be surprising due to the fact that one quarter the state's population has been incarcerated under inhumane and unsanitary conditions at one time or another. Where ever you have unsanitary conditions you have an incubator for mutating viruses and California's prison system is so unsanitary that the state is currently under federal court order to spend hundreds of billions to fix it. Typically people go into the prisons, get sick, are released and give the acquired viruses to their relatives and friends. If the california virus is indeed different, it would be a result of healthcare neglect by the state government.

The right-wing bigot in my office yesterday was making fun of the White House (you know, because its liberal) for saying they won't shut down the Mexican border which lets the illegals keep coming over and bringing the flu with them. I replied that I didn't think shutting down the border would stop ILLEGALS from coming through anyway. That shut him up for 30 seconds until he repeated it again.

Well, I'm sure the right wingers will be happy to know that Mexico has decided to do what they claim Obama won't. Mexico is closing the border and preventing people with the virus from crossing to either side.

Considering the Mexican government's position concerning illegal immigration and the border, I don't think it's in their best interests to demonstrate an ability to close it. :tongue:

They only keep the northern border open because the government's primary source of income is the remittances that Mexicans working in the US send back to their families in Mexico.

Now if you want to talk about closing borders and treatment of illegals, consider how Mexico actually treats central americans who illegally enter their country and compare their actions to their gripes about treatment of Mexicans who are in the US illegally. At least we don't put people in a tiny row boat and dump them in the middle of the ocean. At least we don't torture them or shoot them. Who were those border patrol agents who got prisoned for defending themselves?

You should have told that chidlren are pretty much immune. All the people dying are adults in the prime of their lives. It's not doing much to either children or the elderly.

Considering the Mexican government's position concerning illegal immigration and the border, I don't think it's in their best interests to demonstrate an ability to close it. :tongue:

My gut says this will end up actually demonstrating their inability to close the border.
