Dreams - Window to Your Soul?

What are dreams? Are they an insight to your inner desires? Are they just fucked up things that make a good movie? Do they have any meaning at all? I am curious.

Naturally, this was prompted by a dream I had.

Last night, I had a dream that I was on the run. I'm not sure what the original crime was, but I committed plenty of crimes in the course of my continuing escape to make it worth it to chase me.

Also, lets hear some of the strangest dreams you guys have had.

I dreamed that I was dead and unable to pee after a rough night of sex. It wasn't fun, it was scary.

I dreamed that I was eating handfuls of tiny pillows and when I woke up, my marshmallows were gone. :(

Mostly they are just your brain makeing sense of the day you have had.

Also you really don't want to hear mine.

In my dreams, this really burned up guy with knives for fingers chases me around. I think he's Johnny Depp. :p

I don't remember many of my dreams (though I've been remembering more lately and, I must say, I wasn't missing out on much), but I do constantly have freaking night jolts or whatever. Where you wake up rather violently with an associated full body spasm. I constantly have these and there is an accompanying dream, usually something flying at my face or being unable to stop a car (breaks are cut or something) or what-have-you. Makes it very frustrating to fall asleep and stay so. :(

You know that dream where you show up for an exam and are horrified to realize that you've never even been to the class before?

I've finally come to terms with the fact that I will be having that dream for the rest of my life, no matter how many years it's been since I last had to take an exam.

Had a dream where I was flying to Barcelona to worship Mr. Bean as a chief of a tribe who was wearing a jewel necklace.

Heh. Beat that.

...and I seriously doubt you guys want to know what happened afterward. Its one of about 3 dreams I can actually remember nearly everything about.

I've never had that dream, though most people I know have. On the other hand, I have had the dream where it's getting infinitely closer and closer to class start and, though I'm writing it, the paper that the entire grade for the class is based on is actually getting further and further from being complete. It's like some collegiate Xeno's paradox with a twist.

Dreams... windows to the soul?

I hope not. My dreams tend to be... quite... disturbing as it is. If that's what's going on in my soul, I am fucked.

Fear of ignorance, it's okay to not know the answer once in a while.

I set my alarm an hour before I have to get up just so I get those oh-so-close to reality dreams, I love them.

Dreams are echoes of the senses being sorted into memory - that might not be absolutely correct but I like the line anyway.

I still get that one; it is usually a maths exam and for some reason all the questions are written in a foreign language I don't understand..

Fear of ignorance, it's okay to not know the answer once in a while.

Not in my case. For me, it's the fear of being unprepared, the fear of having dropped the ball on something important, the fear of being proven irresponsible.

Hence, why I know I will be having this dream until the day I die. :D

Same! Like my flying to Barcelona to worship Mr. Bean as a chief of a tribe who was wearing a jewel necklace dream!

Or my -- I'll stop right there. Some of the dreams are just too bizarre.

I dreamt, and I've been doing so for a couple of years, about these twins and their sister... *shivers* To make it short, they get killed at a river by a wicked old lady and I see it all standing from under a tree.

A dream I have had a few times, usually with different variations, is a dream about Paris Hilton getting out of a sheriffs car in a car park, in one of those slow-mo movie scene type views. Usually the only variation of the dream is the color of the car or the cars in the car park. -- I think this qualifies as no. 2

I was a Lego astronaut and when I came back from the Lego moon in my rocket ship (made of Lego as well) I tried to take my helmet of. But it was a brand new helmet and fit super tight so it pulled my head off too and so there I was running around trying to get my head out of my helmet and reattach to my body.

If dreams are the windows to the soul, then my soul has entirely too many German tests and loaves of bread in it.
I hate it when I have dreams that are pretty much exactly what I was doing in the few hours before I went to sleep. You're taking a couple hours of sleep in the middle of writing an essay all night, so now here's a dream about ... writing an essay! It is like my subconscious protesting a lack of available working materials. Or I dream about going to the store and buying a loaf of bread, so when I wake up and discover that there is no bread, I'm disappointed. Now I've got to go to the store again.

The only dream I really vividly remember is the one where I'm in a tree about 40 feet up, and I fall out of it and fall for about a mile (free fall sensation and wind rushing, everything) and finally I hit the ground, feel every bone in my body snap, and just lay there staring for a bit then I woke up.

I guess I died.

I think dreams are a time when your sub-conscious stretches it legs after being cramped up by the conscious all day.
My reason for this is my ability to speak spanish. I have great difficulty in speaking spanish as I just cant remember whats what and how things are organised. I only stopped learning spanish last june, which was when i did my final exam and got an A. However, when I dream, I can have whole conversations in fluent spanish, no pauses to think what the translation is, or to think what the conjugation is, its as though it was my first language. I also understand what I am saying, I sometimes have to translate what one dream character is saying to another dream character, proving to me at least that it is actually spanish and not some garbled mess that sounds spanishy.

That and you have a test that you never studied for. Of course you are reduced to a laughing stock in your dream and usually involves you being homeless, drug addicted, and in prison or all 3.

I had that dream for a few months after I left school and I thought it was over and done with for years.

But a few months ago I left one department at my job for another. Then I was offered a promotion in my old department, however I had to sit through the same training program that several other people from completely different departments needed. I was as qualified to do the job as the people doing the training. But as the training sessions wound to a close it was time for me to start real work. I was supremely confident. I had plenty of experience in the job and was bored sitting through the training.

The I went to bed the Sunday night before my first real day. At 4am I had the showing up unprepared dream (I forgot my ID card and couldn't get into the building.) Then I had the showing up with no pants dream.

Oddly enough, even in the dream I felt no anxiety from the no pants one. I just strode around the building enjoying the breeze.

Shortly before Phil Hartman died I dreamed that he and Andy Dick were both panelists on a talk show that was discussing the rights and wrongs of taking the law into ones own hands through violence. Andy Dick began a well thought out explanation of how it is the independent citizen's responsibility to look out for the safety of those around him, and sometimes that means resorting to force.

While expounding on his pro-vigilantism views the camera widened its focus and he slowly came into view wearing a light blue leotard and a dark blue cape.

Then the host introduced him as Caped Superblue.

Then he started playing footsie with Phil Hartman.

A few weeks later, Phil Hartman was murdered by his wife.

How's that for disturbing? Andy Dick thinking things out. Freaky!

I had a dream the other night where me, my little brother, and my dad were in a car, My dad was driving when we came across a bridge that was open...

I made a joke saying we should just jump it, and my dad looked at me like he was going to do it, and then drove up it, and the bridge collapsed...

then we're all in the water, and its falling apart around us, and I look up and a huge chunk breaks off and I yell "grab on to something!" and it hits and I get sucked under, then I black out and end up in the water by the side of a boardwalk, and my sister appears and its like she's been there the whole time, and my little brother is a sandwich all the sudden, and im trying to give him/it cpr, and after a few tries, I look at my sister and I say "He's dead", she starts crying and it goes white...

I then, in the dream, wake up, and its all white, but It doesnt seem to phase me, and I walk out and my steppmother is on the phone by the broken bridge saying "I cant believe they wont send a rescue team!", and my sister is standing there like nothing happened, when my brother all the sudden comes walking out, and im like "YOUR ALIVE!" I grab him, and look around, when I ask "where's Dad?" and my steppmother goes "He never came back"...

and I wake up...

It was crazy, especially the extremely weird end, I dont think Ill ever forget it, its like an M. Night. Shamalan dream....

One night, I dreamed I was on the planet Belle Hades, I was at an airport, I saw a large parking garage with railroads around it. Those railroads were being shared by light rail and freight trains, and I saw some trains hauling around uranium. Then, I was on a supersonic jet taking off, and I saw huge skyscrapers thousands and thousands of feet tall.

In another dream, also on Belle Hades, they blew up one of Belle Hades' two moons.

I don't remember a lot of my dreams.

The ones I do remember usually involve animals of some sort, usually wolves or bears.

And one bizarre one where an elephant was swinging one of my friends around with its trunk.

Usually I'm running with the wolves- hunting with them. I've never, as far as I remember, had the stereotypical falling or being chased dreams. I'm always doing the chasing.

There's also been a few dreams, very vivid, where I'm in some ancient battle. Those are rare though.

The latest dream I had involved me traveling from Europe to a town in Pennsylvania and apparently losing my car due to this ride where you can convert your car into a roller coaster. Towards the end I was sitting in a cafe, wearing a black trench coat holding a cane. Someone said something to me and I said "I'm an ass, get it right, ass."

That was a weird dream.
