Nostalgia for the homeland.

Talking to Ring of Isengard about my impending trip to Florida USA, I suddenly became quite nostalgic and started thinking about home. My home, of course, and it's not about Spain, really. It's about being back to Asturias. I miss being surrounded by the familiar. I don't know if any NSGer in exile, and lets not go into political reasons or what-nots, but I wanted to ask you, those who are away from the homeland, and those who can picture being away from home, how do you deal with the nostalgia? And, of course, what things do you miss from the homeland?
What do I miss from Asturias?
I miss the food, I miss the warmth of the house, I miss taking nice walks through Muniellos or watching the snow fall softly, the 'escancia' of cider, the gaiterus (bagpipers), the freshly baked bollines, home made fabes and caldines de morcilles, I miss going to Xixón and plunge into the sea there or chatter in Asturian with my mother, I miss singing "Asturies, patria quería" with my drunk "peña" (friends) so much that right now I am listening to it:(, I miss my cousins scaring me with tales of the Xanas and of El Culebre, I miss hanging out with my friends, visiting La Santina cathedral, walking late through the streets of Uviéu, Camín de cantares and trips to Avilés, to Llanes, to Cangas, I even miss watching the Real Uviéu play crappy games against other football teams. Plainly, I miss being back home.

I travel a lot, but friends I have do not, so most of the homesickness I get is from missing hanging out with them. It strikes from time to time, but it's short, and easily alleviated by a long phonecall or some multi-player games online if I'm on the kind of trip where I have my electrical stuff.
That said, I find that every country has a different "feel", and to experience the feel of a county that is different to your own can be overpowering at times, but I'm generally Ok with that. Ironically enough, given your OP, the only time that really got hold of me was when I was in Spain, but that was probably caused by the fact that I was living on a beach at the time. Plus, it was too damn hot. Ye need some proper weather, with rain and clouds and stuff.:p

I certainly get where Nanatsu is coming from. I am, quite often, between the U.S. and Europe . . .
I find that negative feelings and homesick-ness tend to come about only when something negative is going on, or when I'm extremely bored so I find myself just thinking about things I could be doing elsewhere.
For example, when I was in Europe and things were not working with this girl, I started really missing America . . . but if I'm in America, and things are kind of dull or shitty (they often are not, actually . . . but every once in a while) I miss the things and opportunities I have in my life in Europe.
But I'll end this post with a happy comment. There is a cure. Keep yourself busy. Hang out with friends, find a lust/love interest and pursue her/him . . . do stuff, work out, see things . . . . keep your mind and body having fun and occupied, and you will generally find yourself not spending as much time on any negative feelings.
And finally, a great thing is that once you get back, you'll appreciate what you have at home. Whenever I come back to America from Europe, I appreciate all the things that I wouldn't have in Europe . . . after awhile in America, I start to miss the things in Europe, however, perpetually bringing me back and forth. :p
By the way, I hope you enjoy Florida :)

Life is worth living because of the stuff that happens to you without planning it. If you die, you'll never know what could have happend to you. You may have met a girl the very next day that I going to become your sole purpose of living. You may have realized that you really want to get involved in _______ . . . . or you may have found that you want to travel more, see the world . . . or that you you want to stay alive just because your curious as to where humans are going.
