Am I the only one who thinks FCC censorship of words are arbitrary and are flimsy at best?

Also, Carlin 7 words you can't say on TV. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_Nrp7cj_tM)

I'm a CRIMINAL
Cuz every time I write a rhyme, these people think it's a crime
to tell em what's on my mind - I guess I'm a CRIMINAL
but I don't gotta say a word, I just flip em the bird
and keep goin, I don't take shit from no one

My words are like a dagger with a jagged edge
That'll stab you in the head
whether you're a fag or lez
Or the homosex, hermaph or a trans-a-vest
Pants or dress - hate fags? The answer's "yes"
Homophobic? Nah, you're just heterophobic
Starin at my jeans, watchin my genitals bulgin (Ooh!)
That's my motherfuckin balls, you'd better let go of em
They belong in my scrotum, you'll never get hold of em
Hey, it's me, Versace
Whoops, somebody shot me!
And I was just checkin the mail
Get it? Checkin the 'male'?
How many records you expectin to sell
after your second LP sends you directly to jail?
C'mon!-- Relax guy, I like gay men
Right, Ken? Give me an amen (AAA-men!)
Please Lord, this boy needs Jesus
Heal this child, help us destroy these demons
Oh, and please send me a brand new car
And a prostitute while my wife's sick in the hospital
Preacher preacher, fifth grade teacher
You can't reach me, my mom can't neither
You can't teach me a goddamn thing cause
I watch TV, and Comcast cable
and you ain't able to stop these thoughts
You can't stop me from toppin these charts
And you can't stop me from droppin each March
with a brand new cd for these fuckin retards
Duhhh, and to think, it's just little ol' me
Mr. "Don't Give A Fuck," still won't leave

With the PG, R, MA lables, it really dosnt make sense to edit movies on stations like "This" (although some of the movies they show are even funnier edited) But advertizing should be regulated. (don't want to see lawyer commercials that say "We ram em in the ass for you!" or "Best fukin' BBQ in town"
:p

Some control? Sure.

I think it's a good idea not to be talking like a sailor during cartoon hour.....

The FCC ought to not have the power to regulate content in broadcasting...but good luck getting anywhere with that anytime soon.

Please, kids hear curse words more from their parents than they do from TV. Also, it should be the parent responsibility to monitor what their kids are exposed to.

I think the FCC has more power by far than it should have; as a person who works in radio and deals with the FCC and its ridiculous regulations and censorship on a daily basis I am absolutely certain that the FCC is basically empowered to violate the first amendment rights of Americans and is the largest organization of prudes and politically correct dill weeds in the nation.

Not always the case. My kid doesn't swear and it's been a major effort for me not to swear around her.

What purpose is needed for swearing during kid hour? None.

But it's already pretty much assumed such actions are in bad form anyway so there is no need to argue about it.

I would say that there is a Rating System in place, and if there is a program on during "kid hour" that you dont want your kid to watch, it should be your responsibility to stop him/her...

To me, Applying Ratings should be the extent of these types of organizations....

Again what improvement is their for grade schoolers to be exposed to profanity in the morning?

Evening, you are correct as the shows get more adult as children are in bed.

I wouldnt say there would be an improvement, more neutral as far as the grade schoolers themselves...

But, if a network wants to run Family Guy in the morning, it should be able to, and the parent's responsibility if they dont want their kids watching it...

This is a non-issue as the broadcasters already self-censor on this.

Even then the customer is always right. Right?

The very fact many many people think it's a bad idea to run family guy during morning hour......

Now if you want to talk about censoring. I am no longer in the camp of advertising is ok; just deal with the kids parents.

I don't know what it is but lately my kid just has to have what ever piece of crap is trying to be peddled. She just doesn't understand the concept that advertising is nothing more then lies. Constant. no. no. no. no. no. no. no. no. no.

Advertising is evil and I am will to say they are banking on children wearing down their parents.....

It's pretty well accepted that selling it to kids so they'll sell it to their parents is one of the more effective marketing methods.

Ban TV I'd say.

So a parent should take responsibility and control what their children should watch on TV? So surely you can see that parents lobbying the TV channels not to show certain programs is a form of control as to is lobbying the government.

Do you have kids?
I don't have the time to sit and monitor every program my daughter watches. I'm quite happy for her to sit and watch some TV knowing that it will be profanity free during the day.

I will monitor what is watched in the evening, because we generally watch it together

Censorship is never a good thing unless it saves lives. Even then, it is questionable.

Why?

Because the very foundation of a free society is the free movement of information.

Censorship violates your civil rights. Fight it at every turn.
