High seas piracy on the downswing?

Seems as though the reports of new attacks has dropped a little bit. My guess is, there are more submarines in the Indian Ocean by now and the US Navy is still undefeated vs pirates. Will Obama be labled the "Swashbuckler" president that got rid of the pirates?

As to the hostages still being held on foreign ships, let's hope some sort of working plan will be adopted. The Navy has Frogmen and Seals.....Now they need sharks.

I thought the democrats were trying to imagine him as FDR or Lincoln(referring to a poli cartoon). Not as a swash buckler. That is an interesting image.

I am sure that other countries have their war ships in the navy ocean. I certainly hope that Obama and the American media try and give the US government for coming and saving the day.

No wonder piracy had increased there until now everyone has been letting them go.

That means that global warming should be on its way back.

I don't know that you can say that piracy is down just because it's back off the front page. Do we have an actual number that says the attacks are down?

Further, since we have a easily distracted news cycle, right now torture memos have taken over the news. It could just be that torture memos right now gets more viewers.

Finally, I wouldn't be surprised if the pirates have backed off a little bit right now. There are a lot more war ships from a lot of different places in the area right now and lot of heat, like any criminal element they might be laying low until the heat is off.

Or it could be ninjas. Never rule out ninjas. That's when they get ya.

Well, pirates threatened to attack more US ships, but now it seems they are full of hot air. Obama did call for more international cooperation. If this coalition comes together, the credit will be shared.

Not to be a drag, but before things get too far, I was annoyed when Bush acted like he personally strapped on the M16 and pulled Saddam out by his teeth. Similarly, the credit for the current minor victories over pirates really does go largely to the Navy doing what Navies do. All Obama really did was not hide under his desk until they went away. I like Obama, I just don't want to get carried away. I only say this because sure as tides there's going to be some conservative claiming 'liburals' believe Obama swept in and gathered up pirates like some sort of unholy Superman/Tintin hybrid and I just want to be preemptively clear that's not the case.

Back to the fun.

I'm afraid that photo is shopped and actually isn't an accurate portrayal of our Navy. It is something more like this:

Point taken! All hail the US Navy, the lion of the sea. But will the future bring about a Navy "Shark" as I mentioned. (thermal goggles, teflon bullits or whatever to rescue hostages, deep within a ship?) Or Maybe pass a law making a security force manditory or the crew armed and trained in fire arms manditory?

He hasn't really claimed any credit. In fact he has yet to claim credit on anything as far as I can see. Got to admit he is actually a modest president, but lets wait to see how the reelection campaign goes.
