Irony Defined

my nation is called the Disputed Territories of Shahyd. we began as a revolutionary government.
if you visit today, you will notice that it is being reported that my citizens rank in the top 6,000 of the world. granted, it is not number one, but my citizens are obviously happy. If we are trying to do the right thing, is this not the number by which we should measure our success?
However, notice it also says that anti-government posters adorn every wall. My people are happy, yet they hate me?
On a, perhaps, related note. It says, for the first time that there are some political freedoms in my nation, whereas it always used to say they were outlawed. In fact, you'll notice that 6 hours ago, we were reclassified from a Father Knows Best state to an Inoffensive Centrist Democracy.
You'll also notice that "following new legislation" those anti-government posters went up 6 hours ago.

Two questions:

1. How happy were my citizens 7 hours ago?
2. What was the legislation that took us from a Father Knows Best state to an Inoffensive Centrist Democracy and prompted the population to plaster anti-government posters everywhere?

I cannot tell you how happy my citizens were, but it does not look like they were too happy. They plastered the posters everywhere. The legislation I passed was a response to the posters. I permitted the posters. Apparently, permitting the posters made us a democracy. Apparently, this made the people happy.
I wonder now, can we be a democracy without elections?
I would like to hear your thoughts. If my people represent themselves, but we never hold elections, will we remain a democracy?
