I like to leave landmines next to beds in that game. Leave people with no place to sleep and the paranoia over what would happen if they got too close to the bed.

I don't like the way you reach a maximum level of experience. It annoyed me greatly.

"Stalker" had better atmo.

I play EvE and Rail Simulator, but I wouldn't call myself a gamer. EvE and KRS isn't the center of my universe.

Actually I don't think I have a center in my universe...

I'm unsure why you have the idea that "a gamer" is anything other than someone who enjoys playing video games.

Yeah, this makes me sad and frustrated. Even more so that it is such a low level, not to say 20 isn't enough... it just isn't, I guess, even forty would be better, their world is just too big, which too much to do for only 20 levels.

What's more is that I dislike it when people think that you have to play certain games (usually Halo) in order to be a gamer. In my opinion, on needs much more diversity in games played than FPS's to be a real gamer, as opposed to merely a gaming poser.

I find it hard to believe that there are people so sad that they have to make a distinction between gamers and "real gamers".

They're going to fix that in the last DLC, Broken Steel. They're going to raise the level cap from 20 to 30, and also let you continue after completing the main quest. For this reason, I have refrained from buying Operation: Anchorage and The Pitt so that I can use those to reach level 30. Also, hopeful for a price drop in DLC.

Agreed. The distinction between casual and hardcore gamers is probably the problem you're referring to. Most people consider casual gamers to be "not really" gamers and pretty much leads to being gamers sorted into either extreme.

I have the gaming habits of a casual gamer (2-3 hours max on weekdays), but I play like a hardcore (I like to get as much of the achievements from a game as I can).

I looked around online, I can't find the DLC's for PC, if they are out yet. I saw the two that they have released, but only information about buying them for 360, do you know if they are out for PC as well?

What I meant about the distinction of gamers is that people who have only started playing video games (and only play FPS's) since Halo became popular aren't really gamers. They are just people sitting on their couch shooting things. I think a gamer's game needs some higher level of thought process/thinking action.

I very much agree. I play games because I like to test myself against other humans, not just solely for entertainment. I still can't believe how so many people don't use the tunnels on Pipeline....

Well, first off, it's possibly the ugliest game I've played in a long time. Normally I'd forgive that, seeing how even the best looking graphics doesn't mean a good gameplay experience (see: Killzone 2), but fallout is really that ugly. Secondly, that stupid VATS system. They didn't have the balls to decide between FPS or Turn based, so basically you have a hodgepodge of both of them and that just doesn't work. So you end up getting a couple of free shots, followed by ten seconds of walking backwards waiting for your AP to refill, followed by another few free shots. Eventually when you do defeat your opponents you get an epic slow motion death-shot, which while cool the first time quickly become annoying, especially when you're fighting your way through, say fifteen radroaches. This is made even worse by a the stupidity of the AI, which make it possible to kill Mutants with goddamn miniguns with a pistol by stepping out, shooting them with VATS through a window and then stepping out of view before they power up thier guns. Couple this with a non-sensible story, limited and boring dialogue options and a soundtrack that's way too short for the game ever looping it's way inside your brain (if I hear the GNS dj say "Threedog! Ooooooowwwww once more I may kill someone) and the game ecome a complete headache to play.

And all that's before you even start to consider that they've done nothing to address the flaws of the genre itself, like the fetch and "hey random stranger, feel like helping me out for no reason whatsoever" quests.

And a special mention to the way that ever-things head comes off cleanly severed at the neck anytime you shoot them in the head. Even if it's with a 10mm pistol. Funny the first time. The next fifty million, not so much.

That said, I'm only about halfway through, so maybe it has an epic ending that might change my mind, but it going to have to be pretty unbelievable. And I did enjoy nuking that town. That was fun.

Why, and what's your reason for the contrary?

Huh? No, I didn't mean it like that. I was just commenting on the idiocy of people who want exclude others from the gamer club, as if it some form of a status symbol or something.

I'm happy for you, but I'm just incredibly frustrated that it doesn't run properly on either of my two comps, and I've tried way too long to fix it.

So yay you, fuck Bethesda :p

I don't really use VATS. I'm a Golden Eye CoD Halo Killzone GoW veteran; manual aim for me please. But I do share the same issues as you about the gameplay, AI, story, dialogue and soundtrack. The most irritating issue I have is the camera. It just feels wrong...

At a press event in the United Kingdom, Fallout 3 developer Bethesda today announced a new externally-developed entry in the post-apocalyptic role-playing series.

Titled Fallout New Vegas, it's being developed by Obsidian Entertainment (Neverwinter Nights 2, Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II) with PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 versions planed for a simultaneous launch in 2010.

New Vegas will be an RPG in the style of Fallout 3, Bethesda noted, but the company did not confirm if it uses the same engine. The studio also stressed that it approached Obsidian to make a new Fallout entry, not the other way around.

"It is not a sequel to Fallout 3," said Bethesda marketing VP Pete Hines. "It was just a great opportunity we thought to work with some guys who very clearly know Fallout--Feargus [Urquhart] and those guys were there in the early days of Fallout."

Obsidian Entertainment was founded in 2003 by several former employees of Black Isle Studios, the company responsible for the original Fallout titles.

"We approached them. And obviously they were like, 'Yeah!' That was a pretty easy conversation," Hines continued. "It's definitely an RPG. Same sort of experience as what folks got in Fallout 3. It's not Fallout Tactics, it's not Brotherhood of Steel. It's another Fallout game in that universe."

Obsidian is planning to release its espionage-based RPG Alpha Protocol later this year. The studio was also working on an RPG set in the Aliens universe until early this year, when it was revealed to be cancelled.

"[New Vegas] has no impact whatsoever on what [Fallout 3 director] Todd Howard and his guys are working on [internally at Bethesda]," added Hines.

I also rather liked this when I first saw it.

Get the slower leveling mod at fallout3nexus. Combine it with the increased spawn mod for a lot more fun without shooting up to level 20 in an hour or two. Then wait for the community to finish putting together some of the fancier toys like this (http://fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=5587) and this. I rather enjoyed the game, and I actually liked Three Dog at first (though once I'd heard everything a few times I switched the radio off, only switching it back on occasionally to hear about the awesome stuff I did.) That said, if you're hoping that the ending will redeem it...
Prepare to be disappointed. One of the biggest wall-bangers ever.
