Anybody hold an elected office?

Yesterday, at my union's annual general meeting, I was nominated for, accepted, and elected to an executive officer position. This is the first time I've ever been elected to a serious post.

Anybody else out in NSG world ever held a serious elected post?

Define serious elected post.

A post with real power. NSG parliament is not a real post because it doesn't effect anyone's real life. School board, town council, mayo, etc. are real government posts. Precinct captain, union official, etc. are real non-governmental posts.

While I don't hold office, I hold the rank of Don Valley West's Provincial Delegate. This entitles me to represent my riding at each provincial council meeting for the NDP. I have the power to vote and table a motion at the council. I was elected to this. :)

High school student council, Uni student council and my Works council (representatives of staff that confer directly with the CEO and have several legal rights).

Works Council? is that similar to union?

Excellent. And Congrats.

Thanks. Little work required compared to being president or vice president or secretary. I get all the fun. :)

Yes and no. Unions represent whole professions, works councils represent the employees of a company. Within the company, works councils have more legal power - while unions tend to have more muscle.
The two tend to work closely together.

Ah. Different organization systems. Where I am, there aren't work councils.

I was unanimously elected to the position of secretary of my university's chess society. 3-0. Oh, yeah. Those three were president, vp, and treasurer. Basically, there were only four of us in the society at the time (just started it).

on the contrary as a third party candidate your role will basically consist of being bitter and making devious hissing sounds when explaining your parties policies

Have never been elected to anything, but I am pretty damn good at getting people to appoint me for various positions here and there. Currently am part of a completely new committee at my college in St. Paul dealing with a nice new shiny building working for "Global Citizenship" or something along those lines.

Was also President of the Japanese Club in high school, though that was largely due to the fact that I founded the club to begin with and thus was just made President then.
