Favorite Musical Instrument?

Conserative Morality

Title says all, what's your favorite musical instrument?

Although I quite enjoy Rock and Metal, I must confess that my favorite musical instrument is used in neither (As far as I know). The Harpsichord has a certain elegance and feel to it that can make even simple pieces absolutely magical.

So Generalites, what say you?

Violin, because so many pieces I love would not be the same without it; piano second.

A clavichord is great, too.

I like the Theremin as well, it creates such an eerie (and beautiful) sound. The Ondes-Martenot as well (used a lot in Messiaen).

Voice, unquestionably. The most versatile instrument there is.

The above is the most correct post so far.

You know, I don't remember the group, it was some Southern Rock band, I think. Their schtick was the lead singer playing the chainsaw. Yes, they had a roadie whose job was to tune them (there was a backup in the sound wing, in case the first went out of tune, I guess). I forget how (or even if) it was mic'd.

You really should pick up a cheap soprano ukulele; they're very easy to play, sound great, and they're a lot of fun to play.

I heard that about the uke. I want basically every instrument under the sun, and ukulele'd probably be on the list, with other types of guitar (mine's classical - I'd like a steel string, an electric or a dobro some day), banjo, bouzouki, mandolin, cumbus, etc. etc. But just guitar for now.

Actually, in The Wire at a cop's funeral they play The Pogues' Body of an American... so I guess it was just a metaphorical reference on my part.

midi keyboard

i also like wooden flutes, indiginous tympany from all over (but no snares or highhats), digiridu, reeds (other then sax), and bells (including gongs and gamalon orchestras), theremin, and the sound of electric motors. illen pipes too, but no strings except maybe a clearsach, although the tripple is interesting, and some of the wilder artistic forms.

(played french horn and mellophone myself. liked them well enough as brass goes. prefer brass to strings though. but really prefer reeds, flutes and a touch of brass, with really odd ethinic drums from all over, for going acoustic. i just like the flexibility of pure synthisis though. there's just something about it for me.)

All of them; apart from the Scottish bagpipes, the accordion, and the glockenspiel - though even those can occasionally be okay.
