Where?
The girls could be prostitutes. The men could be some form of manual labor, just give the poles a run for their money.

oh dear...
new york's chainged a bit since the last time i was there in 1959 i take it. that WAS grand central station, right?
now i have a herd time believing that wasn't pre-arrainged with security. spontanious street theatre maybe, but why do i have my doubts. the several busloads of school kids arriving on cue? and it does seem that while the performers had the large central area, and while the ropes cordoning it off werent visible to the camera angles there is a clear demarcation between the performers and the regular comuters arround the perifery. whoever set that up and why, susupect some sort of media or advertising intrests just MIGHT have been involved. for one thing, the sound. it wouldn't have sounded that way in that space i don't believe.
the idea is beautiful though. but new yorkers. yup nothing phases them. but as for spontanious participation, forgive me if i have my doubts. or rather not so much doubts that it could occur, but rather that it would have been able to without some sort of prearaingement, at least from the security perspective.

Correction: the world needs huge spontaneous dance numbers in public like that, not choreographed ones advertising flippin' mobile phones or promoting tv shows.

But if you like that public theater sort of thing your best source is here : http://improveverywhere.com/
Circle Line Tour and offshore gambling are classics. Oh and the Talk to the black guy booth at the Aspen ski lodge.

More than 200 dancers were performing there version of "Do Re Mi", in the Central Station of Antwerp. with just 2 rehearsals they created this amazing stunt! Those 4 fantastic minutes started the 23 of march 2009, 08:00 AM. It is a promotion stunt for a Belgian television program, where they are looking for someone to play the leading role, in the musical of "The Sound of Music"
They have a job, silly. They're dancers doing a promo stunt.

Umm... that was their job. Read the description.

I think their job was productive. It was promoting a TV show. People watch TV and now more people might watch that show since they did this stunt and it has been posted on youtube for all to see.
Also, I'm not sure if you noticed, but there were a lot of kids in there too.
