Snow and Hail, Hail and Snow

Anti-Social Darwinism

It's snowing. Last night we had hailstorms most of the evening. Today it's snowing heavily and has been since early morning. It's supposed to continue through tomorrow. The snow is coming down so heavily I can barely see the trees in the greenbelt (whitebelt?) behind my house. I periodically have to go out and sweep the snow off my satellite dish so I can watch TV.

Isn't winter supposed to be over?

Over? You must either live in Wyoming, or have a home ballgame in an uncovered stadium.

Well it seems to snow more often what with global warming and all :)

Double whammy... It's really still winter and the Rockies left the top open.

It really pains me to see baseball games played this early. Probably not as much as it pains you to go out and shovel snow, though. That's why I live where I do.

Thank God for Sub-Tropical Climate! It feels great here this time of year, my favorite weather, not too hot, not too cold...

Although, I, honestly dread July :(...

I remember freezing my butt off in the Pohakuloa Training Area when I was still in the Marines. What an awful place. Liberty in Honolulu wasn't bad, though.

That was in the '80s. I probably spent enough money that the liquor industry is still flush with cash.

It was a beautiful day where I live. First time it's hit 70 F in months, I was able to wear flip flops and didn't need a coat.

It was warm enough here that I spent a good portion of the day sitting on my porch without a shirt on and my feet propped on the rail, smoking cigars, drinking beer and throwing things for the dogs to chase.

Well, apparently the weather in my corner of the world decided to go crazy. Hail and snow along the Front Range, tornadoes out in the plains.

Granted the reports of tornadoes and the actual thunder during the snow are a bit much, but this is pretty typical Spring along the Front Range. You get one of those accursed lows out on the plains with any moisture at all and the counterclockwise flow pushes it up against the mountains, it freezes and ... snow in April. I've only been in CO since 97 and I've seen snow the week before Memorial Day.

It's five to one in the morning now and it seems to have stopped for the most part right now, and for the last couple of hours.

It's still a bit new to me. I moved here from Southern California, where we have no seasons, about two and a half years ago.

Obviously Colorado has decided to screw with us this year. Seventy degree weather throughout January and February, and now winter storms in April.

What's next, below zero degree weather in June?

That is incorrect. There's March-November, which is 70-85 and sunny (in West LA), and December-February where it is 50-65 and sometimes rainy. I've been getting my tan on for a solid month now.

Still, being a weatherperson in SoCal is the easiest job in the world.

Here in Auckland, we have had some beautiful weather lately and I have to admit that the entire summer was lovely (we had hardly any rain, and the temperature got nice and high). Certainly, I just hope that this warming pattern continues and we get good weather during winter.

Here in Melbourne it's a lovely mid-autumn day. The sun has come out and I'm about to go over to a friend's house, about an hour's walk. I've got some mud cake and we should have a fine afternoon tea.

You and 10,000 other folks, I hear. Glad to see you're powered up again. Our lights flickered several times during the day on Friday but stayed on.
