GPS Units?

I am thinking of getting a GPS Unit, anyone have any recommendations for a good one $250 USD or less (probably less than $200)?

I would think what are good features are pretty much static - can find specific places, can make a decent route, isn't stupid slow or anything.

I've rented a couple different types with rental cars. If I was going to buy one, I'd look for a Garmin. They seem to have the easiest interface to use. Definitely get one that can be upgraded -- software and maps.

You would probably like this one. http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0291844

Just remember not to follow the GPS too closely, or you may end up like this man (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/bradford/7962212.stm).

i have the Navigon 2150Max. it less than £200, but i'm not sure what it sells for in the States. it has all of Europe (not much good for you lol), bluetooth for phones, quick reception, reads street names, can get traffic updates, and is fairly large (4.5" screen, or something)
i did a fair bit of research before i got mine last december, and this was the best blend of features and price i could find. they have some cheaper versions, too

Im not sure on price/quality, but one of my friends has one, its funny as hell, itll randomly just tell you "Make a legal U-Turn" lol...and every now and then, youll hit a new road and itll just show you off in space, just in nothingness, lol...

I thought stuff like that only happened on The Office.

I have the Garmin Nuvi: it's awesome. I'm thinking of upgrading to the next newer model, because then I won't have to pay for a traffic alert subscription anymore (which is, btw, 100% worth it).

I read it as "Global Positioning Unit" anyway, lol, damned context clues

I agree. I own a Garmin and updating is as easy as plugging into your usb. It even tells you when you might want to update as you turn it on. When setting it up always choose fastest time instead of shortest route. Shortest route goes by distance and may take you way our of the way to save 1/4 mile. My Garmin also make suggestions if there is heavy traffic in a particular area. If it so happens to miss the traffic due to it being something that happened within minutes, there's a convenient detour button you can hit to give you an alternate route. Happy shopping.

I know two people who have purchased GPS navigation systems. Each of them had theirs stolen, and one had his stolen twice. I prefer those old-timey things they call "maps." :p

Can't find any 600 series any more in stores. I was thinking of picking up a Navigon 5100. Anyone know anything about those?

The only Garmin model that is prolific is various versions of 205. Occasionally a 255. The 265WT looked interesting, but it's 300. I'll go buy a Wii if I want to spend $300 -_-

Well, two ways to avoid this are 1) Not to leave it visible in the car and 2) not to leave the mount visible in your car. I don't have a permanent mount because it advertises, and I'm lucky enough to have "real imitation woodgrain panels" that are glossy enough to use the suction cup on, below window level.

No problems.

And Wii rocks.

I'm actually considering upgrading to one of the newer models that has lifetime traffic reports included.... $60 a year ain't bad if you travel as often as I do, but eventually, it will add up to a brand spanking new model with traffic included.

G1, and it's even better!

And you don't need the AT&T netowrk!

All the Navigons have free traffic (and it actually covers my city), but whether or not it is any good is a question. I think all of the medium-high end Garmins have free traffic now (the 265WT does if I recall).

I don't play my PS2 as it is. After buying Guitar Hero World Tour.
