He was his grandson, he was a broadcaster and journalist. And a Knight.

Well, in that case, my condolences to Sigmund Freud's corpse for the death of his grandson.

Sigmund Freud's nephew was more interesting. was able to convince the American public of the need to topple the Guatemalan government during Ike's presidency.

He was also the brother of the artist Lucien Freud, father of broadcaster Emma Freud, one of Field Marshal Montgomery's aides in WWII, part of the Allied Liaison staff at Nuremburg, one of Britain's first celebrity television chefs, appeared on the cover of the Wings album Band on the Run, was the rector of both Dundee and Saint Andrews Universities (though not at the same time), and served as Member of Parliament for the Isle of Ely and then North Cambridgeshire (Liberal Party) for 14 years between 1973 and 1987. Which is surely a varied and interesting enough career for most.

But for those of us old enough and bourgeois enough to spend time listening to BBC Radio 4, he was the stalwart of comedy programme Just a Minute (http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/comedy/justaminute.shtml) (linked); he spent 30 years as one of the panellists.

For Just a Minute fans like me, he'll be sorely missed.

Edited to add a link to the wiki entry for Just a Minute (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Just_a_Minute).

And this is how I'll remember, and miss, him.

I loved the clip Channel 4 News played:

NP: "Clement Freud, you have one minute to talk about 'Why I Love Just a Minute, starting now."

CF: "I actually prefer I'm Sorry, I Haven't a Clue."

Such a brilliant wit.

Yeah, I've heard that quote before on a special about him.
