Get your minds out of the gutter, NSG. <_<
As some of you may know, I am currently out of Spain on sick leave. So, I'm supposed to be resting and not getting into too much. Wrong! I seem to always be on the move, even when I'm not supposed to.
To the point, which needs a bit of background. I've been, all day, caressing and taking a look, also restoring, a couple of antiques, inckluding handling slabs of unprocessed Thessos and Carrara marbles. Gorgeous! But the cherry topping to my restoration sundae was a a set of antique chairs, mahogany and leather sittings with etched seals, that I was, virtually, making love to with reviver polisher. I took me half the morning doing this and, when I finished my lovemaking session, the chairs' aspect gave me intense satisfaction.

Eating, sleeping, talking with friends/family, walks in the country, exercise, reading, listening to decent music, NSG, good films/T.V., playing guitar, drawing and more. Halfway across the globe? That's not specific enough. I demand details!
Anything useful.
I don't do many useful things, so on the occasion that I do, I intensely enjoy it.

It might be very specific. You're in Bristol? Simply take your coordinates, add 180° to your longitude, subtract 90° from your latitude, and look up that spot on a world map.

And as for satisfaction. I figured out what my unknown chemical is today in structural chemistry. That was pretty satisfying.

He would be correct. I know spanish so if I see Portuguese written I can understand tons of it as it's quite similar to Spanish, but spoken . . . that's another animal entirely. Obviously I can get some words here and there but it's difficult. I can understand spoken Italian much better than spoken Portuguese. (and I think Italian sounds much better :p )

Now, to the question at hand: NSG, what things do you do that bring you intense satisfaction?
For me: Getting through the weeds in my artwork.
When I'm making artwork, I have this idea in my head, and I go and collected random images and objects that I think might express/evoke that idea.
Then starts the long process of designing the work -- that's "being in the weeds." It can be torture. All my personal issues get raised -- fear of commitment, indecision, self-doubt, too many options, second-guessing, etc. I spend countless hours editing the collected materials, adding to them, deleting from them, altering them. I obsess over every detail. Most of the time, I have no idea what the piece is going to be at the end. Sometimes it works out quickly, other times a piece can languish for years in the studio, trying to find its way.
But there does come a time when, like magic, the idea is there. It comes together as I arrange the materials, and voila! What's in my head is coming out of my head.
When I can go through all that confusion, pressure, doubt, and work, and at the end look at what I made and say, "Yes, that works."
That is the biggest boost of satisfaction I get.

See this makes me happy but not satisfaction, what really brings me satisfaction is doing this but against a very skilled and intelligent player, because it means you had to work for it rather than simply going through motions and beating them because they are crap.
It would be similar to getting into a fist fight with a 5 year old, it is to simple to beat them, but go against someone who is stronger than you and has some skill well to beat them brings about a lot of satisfaction

Now, to the question at hand: NSG, what things do you do that bring you intense satisfaction?

On my mom's side a bit of both. They are Irish travelers. They came circa 1860.
As for my dad's side my uncle (oldest male in family) supposedly has a strong case for recouping peerage if he were to become a UK citizen. Considering he got chased out for "being rude and obnoxious to Lord Oliver Cromwell"
Though technically before being Scots we were vikings. Who just showed up in Scotland claimed some land and peasants and never left.

I'm here because I was having stressed related problems that caused me intense headaches and physical discomfort. My doctor told me it was imperative I took a year. My heart was starting to show strains and he feared that, at 28, I would get a stroke.
My mother decided that it was prudent, for a few other reasons, to send me out of the country. I'm on paid sick-leave, I can't complain though.:D
Imma nominate you for All-Star Mod of the Year, Kryo-sama.:D
Well then it's a great thing that you got out when you did. I always wonder what the strains of my job will do to me. I know it takes a toll on my personal life, but I've done other things to damage that. I just wonder what working no less than 60 hours a week forever does to you. Especially when you have a boss that is perfection driven. Not really really good driven, but it needs to be perfect.

If it takes a physical toll on you, you need to step back and reevaluate. I was forced to. I was so ill, my headaches were so horrible I had to walk away. There was no choice. I was doing 18 hour days on most weeks, and sometimes all nighters and weekends. No matter how much you get paid, if there's no quality of life, if your job prevents you from enjoying life with those you cherish, then there's a problem, a serious one.

Well, not physical really as of yet. My wife and I both work terribly long hours but we do it at different times. My job includes long hours on weekends and she usually gets the weekend off. She does work over the weekend as well, but tries to avoid it if possible. We are both driven and motivated to rise up in our business structures. The crazy thing is that the more money we make the more the government takes. I know those who have much should be willing to part with their fair share, but most of those people don't live in the NY Metro. Someone making what we make in most other areas of this country would be living in a huge house with flowing land. Us? Not so much. I guess our goal is to get so far ahead of our careers that we can transfer anywhere we want and have both sides of life. As of right now I am an insomniac on days I work and want to sleep in till the last bit on days I don't.
Woman, stop torturing me! I want a love shaft and I don't have one.:(

- Getting a kill with self-detonation in Gears of War 2, especially if it's in Guardian and I manage to get the enemy's leader.
- Finally turning in a term paper and not having to worry about it anymore.
- Learning how to do something interesting, difficult, and/or useful in Linux.
- Archery (though I have not shot my bow in a long time; alas, I have had no space to shoot it since I started college)
- A perfectly executed kata.

Music always soothes the savage beast that I am. I listen to my music collection a lot, also I'm quite an avid collector of cd's.
Iced weasel vomit (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kopi_Luwak) coffee (oh Vietnam, how I love thee). This gives me great satisfaction. Fried bread with an egg easy-over, half a link of moose sausage (thank you mommy!) cut up, fried, and piled on top of the egg. Coffee is a vegetable, isn't it? Bob Marley is for summers, welcome back.
Mornings, beginnings, sunshine, wind, purpose.

Now, to the question at hand: NSG, what things do you do that bring you intense satisfaction?
Make real coffee and smoke roll-up cigarettes. Also gardening, if I'm back in York, which is always nice.

I wouldn't call it intense satisfaction, but it's satisfaction notheless: Playing Sims 2, chatting on IRC, and Posting on NSG and Civilization Fanatics' Forum. The bold gives me the most satisfaction.
