I don't know about any of you, but the three-part Red Dwarf special seemed like equal parts non-sequitur and mindfuck. Opinions?

I'm not going to spoiler you...but let's put it this way. VIII > BTE.

I certainly will.

Disappointing, though. I had (for some reason) high hopes.

Dinnie worry, I can still watch Craig Charles in Corrie and Danny John-Jules in re-runs of Maid Marian and Her Merry Men.

I've only seen the first one. It wasn't wonderful but better than 8.

It was patchy, parts feel like straight out of the old series, other parts feel more like the sort of wackiness that made up season 8.

But then sit-coms rarel work well when using longer plot formats.

Ne'er resurrect a show that has run its course! You can only hope to sully its memory, as with Red Dwarf: BTE!

Ahh, I'm not quite sure; I'm fairly certain I saw it replayed on some digital channel recently.

There's quite a bit of it kicking around on the net.

Sing along now (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CY7UifBHaGc&feature=related)!

EDIT: And if you're keen (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Maid-Marian-Her-Merry-Men/dp/B001BDF7DA/ref=sr_1_1/276-9838507-6078341?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1239589727&sr=8-1)...

It's OK. Just watch Series I-VI and all will be right with the world.

Heck, just watch Series V.

Actually, just "Back To Reality". Two words: "Duane Dibbley?!?"

First episode was actually quite reasonable. Then it just got ridiculous. Just goes to show you really shouldn't take the characters out from their usual setting.

[MILD SPOILER]:
Looks like they've left it open for another series, though, back on Red Dwarf. Which could be good. Maybe.

I just watched it on youtube. I really don't see why people have been saying its bad. To me that seemed a lot better than the last few series of the show

Seen the first two.

First one was quite good, felt like an episode from one of the middle series. The second one was just a lot of self-parody, in-jokes, and take thats about Red Dwarf, current sci-fi/comedy and geeks and wasn't even done very well.

Just read that this was a Doug Naylor solo project. And that's really the problem with Red Dwarf.

Doug Naylor did the story and sci-fi bit and Rob Grant did the dialogue and comedy bit (to over-simplify it down).

Rob Grant left after 6 and it's struggled really since then.

Apparently this was a really rush job. 14 days of filming and a couple of weeks of post-production, so overall not great but not too bad.

I only got to see the first episode; they seem to be playing caricatures of themselves.
