do you wear glasses?

Well, I was bored and because I wear glasses decided to look up glasses on Wikipedia (when you just answer phones at work, you get bored easy, lol) and in continuing the trend of "Guess Who?" threads, does your person wear glasses?

I do, as evidenced here:

I wear glasses, and sometimes contacts.

I DON'T do laser surgery, because one of my friends had his night vision fucked up royally afterwards.

I wear my glasses when I'm in a Tina Fey mood or when I'm too lazy to put in my contacts.
Eventually, I'll get my eyes lasered.

Only sunglasses and goggles. Why do you need regular glasses in the age of laser surgery?

Because glasses are cheap and a much easier option than surgery when your vision impairment is only around 20/50?

I have excellent vision. But if at some point I need eyewear, I'll opt for glasses.

Contact lenses disturb me.

And having lasers slice my eye open disturbs me even more.

Yep. Badly astigmatic, wear my glasses a lot, thusly getting worse.

Protip, kids: Don't ever choose a job that requires you to be inside a lot, and if you absolutely must don't spend most of your free time inside too. This is probably why I still wear them.

Because you can't afford to get your eyes done/don't want to/ are nervous about alleged side effects?

I wear glasses sometimes. I'm nearsighted, and wear them in classes to see the board, in movie theaters, and sometimes when walking or driving. But my eye doctor told me to wear them as infrequently as possible so that my vision doesn't get worse.

Have since I was thirteen; it's gotten to the point where now, if I take them off, I can't actually read what I'm writing here on the screen (maybe two feet away). Not going to get LASIK because a) the idea of someone slicing into my eyes with laser beams freaks me the hell out and b) apparently there are nasty side effects.

Actually its more because they draw my attention to their face and give me a reason to look closer than I ordinarily would.

I DON'T do laser surgery, because one of my friends had his night vision fucked up royally afterwards.

How long he had the surgery? I had some slight problems with night vision for a couple of years afterwards but eventually they subsided also I had to use synthetic tears for a couple of years.

My own experience tells me that much depends on the screening process before the operation which in my case was very trough as the surgery was still in its experimental fase (I did it back in '96).

I wear glasses, but my vision is about 20/40 without them so still not so bad that I couldn't legally drive without them or anything like that. I just wouldn't feel comfortable driving or going to the movie theater or class in a big lecture hall without them.

Proof: http://img117.imageshack.us/img117/4466/009u.jpg

I like my glasses. They're still a little weird since they fell out of the drawer where I keep them and I accidentally stepped on them while looking for them, though. :$

I've worn glasses since I was 3, and I've been able to wear contacts since I was 15. I am legally blind without any vision correction (learned that this year, but it's been true for-bloody-ever), so I just count myself lucky that I'm correctable and move on with life. Laser surgery cannot help me, I don't have enough natural vision and I'm a mess of problems that can't be treated with LASIK (astigmatism, myopia, and oblong eyeballs - all in the degree that I'm still considered 'normal').

I hate it too. It's depressing.Just count yourself lucky that your vision can be fixed so easily. The optic nerve connected to my left eye is fucked, and my brain pretty much ignores the input from my left eye -- I essentially have monocular vision (as opposed to binocular). Means I have poor depth perception, and were anything to happen to my right hand eye then I'd be legally blind (I have trouble reading the text on my screen with my left eye even at closest zoom Firefox will allow).

its expensive and not 100% safe

i wear glasses, and i hate them. contacts just don't work for me (they dry up and fall out). i'd get laser surgery if i could totally trust it, but i'm quite afraid of complications. i only have one pair of eyes, and i'm not going to risk them...

I usually wear contacts; glasses are only for occasions when I need to look especially intelligent.
So far about 80% of the poll takers have vision poor enough to require corrective lenses or surgery. I don't know what the worldwide average percentage is, but that seems significantly larger.

I've got normal vision in one eye, and bad in the other. So without some form of corrective lens I keep closing my right eye to see "better."
I considered getting a monocle for a while (part of the reason for my old avatar), but glasses are more convenient. Also, I don't think I could pull off the monocle look, top hats and pike helms make me look ridiculous.
