Anyone else doing it?

Anyone else doing some crazy and unnecessarily difficult physical challenge to torture themselves this summer?

Actually, I know some people who might be genuinely interested in that. I'm going to forward this to them. Thanks much!

It's seriously awesome. I'm in big trouble, though. I just started getting fit again. I finished my sixth ride tonight. My longest so far is 40 miles and went over a mountain, so I'm getting there.

Getting to the torturing yourself thing. I rode up Signal mountain on the back side. It's so steep that I got half way and decided it was too dangerous to turn around.

Nah. Once you've seen a bro sit on a gigantic dildo or cut off their balls, everything else is kind of a let-down. Not that I've ever seen Kirk Johnson do such a thing, or ever watched the Pain Olympics. Never.

That's actually a great idea. That would be so much fun.

Thread subject: Should torturing yourself be illegal?

Answer: No, but it's a bad way of getting information, as you'll tell yourself whatever you think you want to hear to make you stop torturing yourself.

I know that you disagreed with my methods, and that others will as well. This is beyond my control. However, I cannot imagine that any court, would be able to convict me, no matter how low their opinion of my actions might be. You must understand one basic fact for all this to make sense my dear Chairman. These A.I., they all come from somewhere; they are all based on a person. Now Alpha, was no exception. And while the law has many penalties for the atrocities we inflict on others, there are no punishments for the terrors that we inflict on ourselves. So you send your men. They won't find themselves a fight. They'll only find an old man. An old man tired, but satisfied he did his duty. An old man weary from a mind more filled with memory, than it is with hope.

...What? I thought this was about self-torture?

Er... anyway, I'm not too fond of pushing myself to the physical breaking point, but it's inspiring to see other people do it. :D

This one time, Jack Bauer lost his keys. He then spent the next hour-and-a-half torturing himself until he gave up their location.

Nice reference. ;)

As for torture? I've climbed a few mountains... in some deep ass snow... with the stupidest looking crap strapped to my back... but the ride down was oh-so-heavenly. When it's all said and done, it's never torture, but nirvana instead. :)

Bicycles and I don't get along well - philosophical disagreements.

I do, however, intend getting to bed earlier than 3:00 am and getting up before 11:00. That's torture enough.

In some context self-inflicted torture is ALREADY illegal.

There's a difference between a footbullet so you don't have to go over the top and self torture (which sounds to me more like algolagniac masturbation or religious flagellation to me). And I don't think mountain biking counts as torture.

Anyone that tortures themselves is stupid; doing a physical challenge is not torturing yourself though it’s just a challenge.

Opinion? Well mine is that some people like to torture themselves, and *shrug* why not.:D

Some people have claimed that erging is a form of physical torture. They might have a point :)

My coach did the Iron man. 2.4mi swim, 112mi bikw ride, 26.2mi run. When he entered it, he couldn't swim either. The man is a complete nutter though.

Aside from all the *shudder* exercise involved, I wouldn't go near anything called "Suck Creek Mountain." Not within 10 miles.

Insane? Not really. A cycling century isn't any more extreme than a marathon. Less, in my opinion, for all that it may take a little longer.

Over mountains?

I ran a cross-country marathon once. That was a little harsh. Peddling over mountains? That's on the edge of crazy... and we both know which edge I mean.

Cycling is torture if you have the weird legs that I do. I don't know why but when I cycled or walk just about my regular walking pace I get these bad pains in my lower legs.

I live in the mountains, and all my biking has been at least in the hills. I'm sure a flat-country century would be even less extreme.

If people enjoy torture like marathons and the like, well who are we to say these should be outlawed?
I mean, I absolutely enjoy marathon sex. It can be bad for my health and my sexual organs to use them so much, you know, and so streneously. But I like this kind of torture. Should that be illegal? Hell no!

At some point I mean to do it as part of a tour of the UK's weirder sports, I think we host the World Biscuit Throwing Championships.

Torturing yourself should only be illegal if you've got multiple personalities and haven't got the consent of the others first.
