Made you look!
But not him, that band of Canadians that have reduced Ayn Rand's egoist ideals to song lyrics. I was listening to our only oldies station when they played Anthem. I couldn't believe what I heard, so I looked up the lyrics.
Live for yourself...there's no one else
More worth living for
Begging hands and bleeding hearts will only cry out for more
Well, I know they've always told you
Selfishness was wrong
Yet it was for me, not you, I came to write this song
I love it. Am I the only one not to have made this connection before?

Welcome to the world of good music.
They're an amazing band to see live. I've seen then perform at SARSFest and during the Snakes and Arrows Tour. :)
Anthem, one of many great songs. Subdivisions and Big Money are just two of the many I love. I also love YYZ. Anything where Pert can rip up the stage with a wicked solo.

I never bought any Rush albums because I didn't like "Closer to the Heart". I guess I'll have to catch up.

Good band, somewhat idiotic lyrics at times.
2112.
2112.

2112.
Moving Pictures.
2112.
Did I mention 2112?

To start, you may want to get Farewell to Kings, 2112, Fly By Night and Test for Echo.
I'm sending you jealousy through the intertubes.
....and to top it off, I got to see them perform in their hometown, which is where I happen to live. :D You may now hate me more.

Welcome to my ignore list!

I used to work for Rusch. Drove a truck for them and everything...
Oh wait, not that Rush? Yes Rush, being from Canada and not being Celine Dion, do in fact rock.

They only rock when they have Bubbles on stage with them.

I love those lyrics! Damn you, making me think that people would actually think Rush Limbaugh rocks on these forums.

Not likeing rush is just like not liking iron maiden or not liking yes or pooping in the pool. Unacceptable.

I've always had a soft spot for Hemispheres as well, but that's definitely a top notch "primer" on Rush.

I don't hate them. That would imply some sort of strong emotional response.
Rush overwhelm me with intense indifference.

I think as a band they're kinda meh, however, most of the people in the world that I really want to do violent things to are "zomg! #1 fan!", so yeah, it projects itself to the band.
I like Tom Sawyer but I could live without the rest of their music.
I would like Rush a whole lot more if they stopped letting Geddy Lee sing.

Rush overwhelm me with intense indifference.
For once I entirely and unconditionally agree with G_n_I.
Rush fill me with a feeling of total and utter meh.
For Canadian hate, I go to Bryan Adams and Celine Dion.
For quality Canadian lyrics, I go to Leonard Cohen.
For quality Canadian rock, I go to Neil Young.
For quality Canadian underground quirk, I go to to Godspeed! You Black Emperor and the other Quebecois collectives.
For quality Canadian modern angst, I go to Arcade Fire.
For nostalgic Canadian guilty pleasure classic rock that I'd never admit to listening to in a public forum, I go to BTO, Loverboy, and Martha and the Muffins.
Which goes some way to proving that Canada's done enough for modern popular music that Rush can safely remain irrelevant to me.
And besides, everyone knows that the best overblown twiddly prog's always been British. Rush simply can't stack up in the prog stakes to Floyd, ELP, Yes, or Tull - or that classic innovative prog-rock pantheistic metatheological critique 'The Gospel According to Spinal Tap'.

If you like Godspeed, try to find anything by Sam Chalabi and his work with The Land of Kush.

Just got "A Farewell to Kings" from iTunes. I guess I'm over whatever struck me as bad about Closer to the Heart in 1977, because I find the album pretty good.
Thanks.

Clearly Rush has familiarized themselves with the works of eminent 20th Century Russian-American Philosopher Ayn Rand.
I. Hate. Rush.
Hate. With a passion I normally only reserve for things like Pinochet apologists.

Rush is my favourite band ever and I now declare my uncompromising support for Pinochet, who I also have sexual fantasies about. The only thing on this earth that I hate is Canadias resistance to the glorious American imperialism that shall enforce strictly unregulated market capitalism on everyone.
