or some kid stole a single engine prop plane and for some reason decided to head for the States. The plane was apparently intercepted by two F-16s who hung around and watched (probably while wondering what the Canadian was doing) as the plane "became erratic" then "landed on a highway in Missouri". After failing to find a Timmy's the Canadian was apparently apprehended by police when he asked to use the washroom rather than the bathroom.

On the plus side the F-16 pilots managed to keep their heads and refrained from shooting down the Cessna. Hopefully more of a back-story will develop later on. Any idea on what they could charge him with?

on the downside it would have been awesome if they'd scrambled Apaches
(293 km/h top speed and 21 000 foot ceiling to the Cessna’s 226 km/h and 13 500) rather than the F-16s (1,470 km/h, 60 000 + all speeds at sea level) simply because the chase would have been more exciting . . .well that and it would be funny to watch a helicopter out perform the terrible terrorist threat incoming from Canada. A previous attempt met with great (Darwinian) success when in 2002 a student hijacked a similar plane and crashed it into the bank of America causing light damage to the building and removing himself from the gene pool http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cessna_172.

Any fighter pilot would have to get clearance to shoot down anything over the US. It's not about keeping his head at all.

Get spell check please or if you have it please use it. Over a dozen mistakes here.

gah. Yah I realize that my spelling in the above post is somewhere between horrendos and attrotious (<--- deliberate spelling errors). for some reason Firefox has decided that i am no longer worthy of its spellchecking services. I'll edit now.

What I wonder is, in addition to any criminal penalties, are they going to make him pay the costs of the flight time for those F-16's??

Might be pricey.

oh gods yah. That would suck lol. I mean really though, Grand theft plane? war crimes? what? (if this could be considerd invasion of US airspace then concievably he could be tried as an ennemy combatent who was not in uniform and thus treated as a spy!)

Yeah I heard that the Canadian air force only consists of a few Cessna pilots with revolvers.

they were likely surprised the Cessna was going toward Mexico rather then away form it.

NPR reported this morning that the Cessna pilot was looking for suicide-by-USAF.

like an USAF pilot would shut down a Cessna that wasn't heading for the white house.

NPR did not speculate on the intelligence of the pilot with regard to USAF policy.
