Sleeping matters

After several sleepless nights I've had plenty of time to reflect on sleeping and its various dynamics, so I ask you:
Do you toss or turn? or both? If turn, do you move mainly clockwise or anticlockwise?
I'm a clockwise turner myself, and sometimes this leads to regrettable situations of Bad Duvet Positioning (BDP) where it is all bunched up on one side and requires immediate reorganisation. Do you find this, or do you continue turning to achieve your goal of being all wrapped up like a cocoon?
Ok, I think that about covers it....

Anti-clockwise if I'm rotating. Usually I don't rotate, I just toss. I go to sleep on my left side generally. I hate when I can't sleep and then fall asleep, but have dreams I'm laying in bed awake.

This is one of those things I have given no thought to whatsoever so...
I would say I tend to turn clockwise, preferring to sleep on my left-hand side and facing away from the bed.
I'm like a little nuclo-oven in bed so I tend to wake up with the covers off the bottom of the bed.
Both from reports as well as evidence of sheets, I'd say I sleep like a stone, barely moving at all though I guess I must move a bit.

I rotate clockwise. I have to put the pillow case on in a particular way so that I don't remove it.

How the hell do you manage to get the pillow case off?
I could understand if it was the sheet or the cover, cos I always manage to do that.

on my back first, then left side, then right side, then sleep. when i'm asleep, fuck knows what happens. some mornings i wake up and the covers have barely moved. sometimes i wake up in the night cos the duvet has fallen off. sometimes i find myself literally rolled up in the duvet and can't move. occasionally i fall out of bed, and, rarely, i wake up to find myself the wrong way round (head where feet should be, or sideways)
i think i'm erratic

If I happen to fall asleep peacefully (doze off, not meaning to -- best sleep) I stay in that same position pretty much cause it's a good sleep. That's usually on my back or half cocked (still on my back) on a pillow.
But usually I end up positioning myself (forcing it) for sleep (stomach).. I toss, turn and flip... but still sleep.
It would be horrible to have insomnia. I mean the kind where you can't get a good sleep at all. The only sleep disruption I have is waking way too early .. but I can eventually get in a good nap somewhere to make up for it.

Not totally sure as I am asleep. If they are facing one way when I wake up the pillow case is half off the pillow, if they a facing the other it is okay. My working theory is that I keep turning over in the same direction and it slowly pulls the pillow case off, while the duvet falls off the bed in the opposite direction.

That sounds terrifying, especially for someone who has trouble sleeping. Fortunately, I don't remember my dreams very much.

Clearly it is a very important issue I've thought about a lot before... perhaps if we discuss it fully it can then be put to rest....
I tend to snuggle with covers so very rather do I remove them much if at all.

I always wake up in the same position, but the covers are often in odd orientations, like sideways across me - how do I manage that?

Going to sleep (which usually takes me forever) I mostly move between lying on my left or right side, to finally settle on lying on my back. And that seems to be where I'm staying until I wake up. Seeing how, as a kid, I would toss and turn and wake up curled sideways across the bed or with my head down at the foot end or just fall right out of bed, I seem to have developed into a remarkably motionless sleeper.
The only really important thing is that my blanket is always tucked all the way around my neck up to my chin and ears.

By moving secretly while you're not looking. Obv.

I heat up when I sleep too. I tend to regulate the temp by putting a leg out from the covers. I keep my bedroom semi cool .. and unless it's really cold and windy outside (rare here) or super hot I have a window at least an inch or two cracked.
I think I might be claustrophobic. I always keep a window in the car cracked too.

Really? I hate having the blanket up to my neck, though I supposed it's the same with clothes in general, I hate tight collars.

Side sleeper, 180 degrees of rolling. I usually start of on my right side and switch as needed. I guess that would make it clockwise looking from my head towards my feet. It would make it counter-clockwise if we look from my feet towards my head. We need rules for this!

He puts his over his head, I lay on mine, we both end up with pain in the morning, but sadly it's the only way we can really sleep. I'd like to figure out what to do with my arm....... I feel like we're missing something

Thanks a QA fault must have specs, must have specs. In that case counter clockwise. About 30 to 45 minute intervals between switching. I rarely stop in the middle either.

My fiancee says that sleeping with me is like sleeping in the same bed with a salmon. I jump and roll in mid-air while I sleep. And without losing the blankets - years and years of practice on a narrow bed.

Himself and I both do this. We each always leave one foot sticking out from under the covers, unless we're especially cold for some reason.

Eww.. how does your fiancee know what sleeping with a fish feels like?
I toss and turn forever. I like to lean on something with my back and lay mostly on my side. My girlfriend likes to spoon, but I'm always so uncomfortable being the big spoon when we're actually sleeping that I either lay on top of her and use her as a pillow or she is the big spoon and I lean on her. Surprisingly, she's nearly always comfortable, which is nice, because with back problems I'm nearly always not.

I don't have much of a problem, I do enjoy my cocoon. But I do find that I am the most comfortable when I'm laying in my Keeper's arms, face pressed against his rumbling chest, and he breathes softly under my ear.

Bad pun, bad.
I'm not allowed to toss and turn. Clyde, my 16 year old tomcat and Persephone, my 13 year old female cat sleep one on either side of me on top of the covers. They effectively pin me down. Forced into immobility by the inflexible demands of the cats, I sleep on my back.
Hmm... I've never really thought much about this... Tonight I'll see which way I turn. Anyway, when I was younger I had pretty severe case of excema (still do), so I would itch like a monkey (still do), and for some reason I'd kick off my bed sheets and/or occasionally my blanket (still do; why, just yesterday I found a white blanket that I was sure my brother had stolen under my bed). The worst part, though, was sometimes I'd wake up and there would be bloodstains on my bed sheets. It got to a point where I became an insomniac, I was afraid to sleep because I knew I'd itch in my sleep and bleed.
EDIT: Btw, what's up with the poll numbers...?

Some how i go to sleep in the bed but often wake up on the couch.... once i woke up outside.
I sleep on my stomach/side with, say, my right leg straight, my left leg bent at the knee and drawn up a bit, my right arm under the pillow, and my face turned to the left. I reverse this position (left leg straight, etc.) many times through the night. Not only do I have to straighten the comforter, I have to switch arms and straighten the pillowcase, too. It's really tiring. :/
I always turn counter-clockwise at the bottom of the hour.
I fall asleep...I wake up....the particulars do not concern me.

Sounds frightening, the cats have you right where they want you: you feed them regularly, so they don't let you leave at night. Well, I for one am not ready to accept cat overlords into my house.
