You guys aren't keeping with the theme. The 7 deadly sins were things that more or less everybody would be guilty of at some time. So you need to pick something fairly universal.

How are the religious leaders going to control people if they can't call them sinners?

Well, I was thinking this: why is desiring just vengeance a sin? And deception's a means to an end, doing it for good generally is good. And if you betrayed your (hypothetically) evil, oppressive country, why'd that be bad?

I called apathy, this person called indifference, same thing. A nice quilt to go with it although I think it will provide little comfort.

http://www.quiltart.com/challenges/ds/index.html

I have chosen the sin of indifference for this challenge. Throughout the history of mankind, the silence of humanity has often been responsible for the perpetuation of crimes against mankind.

On the background, I have painted in red, graffiti style, some of the names of places and the crimes and atrocities from my lifetime. They are: Columbia, Sarajevo, The Congo, Iraq, Germany, Darfur - Sudan, Kosovo, South Africa, USA, Auschwitz, HIV-AIDS, Abu Graib, Hate Crimes, Genocide, Apartheid, Death Squads, Ethnic Cleansing, Segregation.

I have chosen our current president as the icon of indifference (not to say he is the only one, just the most prominent in our times). I have screen printed his image over the graffiti background, in 3 poses. Hands have been appliquéd over the eyes, ears and mouth to represent see no evil, hear no evil and speak of no evil.

I found some significant quotes by famous people that I have printed on fabric using screen printing, the printer or by image transfer using a solvent. I embellished the piece with some organza printed with linear lines to represent being behind the bars of indifference, Then I over stamped with various abstract designs to represent how we trample on
the rights of others.
Truly Blessed
04-04-2009, 17:24
All it takes for evil to flourish is for good men and women to do nothing.

The actual quote,“The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing” was written and said by Irish politician Edmund Burke (1729 – 1797)

Spelling perfectionism on internet forums is #8. *is occasionally guilty*

More seriously:

There is nowhere in the Christian Bible that a specific list of the Seven Deadly Sins is given, although lists of virtues contrasted with lists of sins are found in certain books of the New Testament, such as the Epistle to the Galatians. The modern concept of the Seven Deadly Sins is linked to the works of the 4th century monk Evagrius Ponticus, who listed eight "evil thoughts" as follows (Refoule, 1967):

Gluttony; fornication; avarice; sorrow; anger; discouragement; vainglory; pride.

The first three of these sins, as Refoule explains, link to lustful appetite; anger links with the irascible; and vainglory and pride link with the intellect. Some years after Ponticus, in 590 AD, Pope Gregory I (Pope Gregory the Great) would revise this list to form the more common "Seven Deadly Sins". note: this article lacks sources

The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. (Galatians 5:19-23, NIV) It seems to me that paranoia about the "7 (or now 8) deadly sins" is absurd so long as the Golden Rule is followed to the best of one's ability. The Catholic and Orthodox Churches in particular, and most other denominations to lesser degrees, seem to want to turn Christianity into a religion of ritual and formula.[/seriousness]
