Govt. seeks to reverse Ted Stevens' conviction (http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5h47fZRACOnhATNI3vB4ZrWuJKj8QD979TBTO0)

It's ironic that Stevens was convicted under the Bush Administration, yet he's being freed under Obama's term. But, that's small garnish compared to the revelations that prosecutors basically Nifonged the case from Day One. "Prosecutorial Misconduct" on a high-profile trial that basically cost the man his Senate seat is not going to look good on people's records. Not to mention they might want to avoid Alaska for a looong time.

Censorship????
Cannot think of a name

I don't like him, I think he's kind of nuts, and I don't like what he represents. But for whatever reason he's what Alaska wanted and I'm not even Alaskan...hell, I haven't even visited there...that he lost his seat because of a poorly managed and irresponsible prosecution is wrong. And you can't correct it, you can't just seat him with a 'well, he would have won,' you can't make it right. That is unfortunate. I'd want him gone, but not this way. The only silver lining might be that cleaning up the justice department might now be a bipartisan priority since it apparently doesn't matter which initial is behind the name in reckless prosecution.

The bad part is though, it will always be hanging over his head. He wasn't aquited per se, the DoJ just admited that it screwed up the case, not that he didn't actually do it.

Problem is, his apologists get to drag the martyr sheet over Ted's bedraggled countenance and claim some kind of vindication for this slippery bastard.

Damn the prosecutors for their arrogance and/or carelessness.

Well, It's ironic that it was the Old Administration's Justice Department that prosecuted this and the new Justice Department that is not only trying to reverse the decision, but is also firing the prosecutors and deciding against retrying an 85 year old man. It's like the Twilight Zone.

As for the election, I really don't have much pity on Ted. Afterall, he's in politics where appearance matters more than substance and he was pretty arrogant in engaging in behavior that could even be perceived as unethical or illegal and thinking he could get away with it.

Was he guilty of a crime? We'll never know now. But he was certainly guilty of horrific judgement. He deserved to lose the election.

I suspect it's the result of a Justice Department system that is more interested in results than...well, justice.

As much as I'd like to blame that on Bush, It's been like that for a while. I suspect that the blatant disregard for the Constitution during his administration and under the management of Ashcroft/Gonzales/Mukasey magnified that tendency.

But for whatever reason he's what Alaska wantedErm, not me. He's the guy who brought OTHER PEOPLES' money to our state to spend on our projects, so a few of our contractor friends made bucks. That's that whole "independent-minded" horseshit our state and Sarah like to shovel.
and I'm not even Alaskan...hell, I haven't even visited there...]I offered, and you know it. And not just so you & i and WYTYG can frolic in the back of your van under whatever Burroughs-esque drug influence.
