A bottle of cheap scotch, and M&Ms to the queen of England. Seriously, This is getting bad. I know Obama is busy but you figure he could set aside some member of his staff just to handle this sorts of things.

I second this. Obama, please learn how to give gifts. I sometimes wonder if he stops at a store five minutes before he leaves for England each time...

Oh, let's not forget trying to talk to the old President of France... oh wait, there's a new one now.

Does he know what he's doing at all?

a CD of the Swedish band ABBA's greatest hits (still in shrink wrap with a 2-for-1 sticker on it) and ten bags of M&Ms with the presidential seal on them.
Starting to sound fishy.

With the exception of the M&Ms which came from the white house.
All of it was bought within Heathrow Airport's duty free store.
So they came from England. Atleast spring for the Blue label Johnnie Walker. Shoot I think the English have declared war for less then this.

Oh, let's not forget trying to talk to the old President of France... oh wait, there's a new one now.

Let me ask you two things:

1) does it embarrass you when, after you post factually untrue statements like this, they are inevitably pointed out for the lies that they are? Or are you shameless?

2) shall we expect this as some sort of trend from you? Or are you to be another one post wonder?

In all fairness Obama was likely talking about charity work with the former president, and was doing it to piss off the current president who misspelled his name earlier.

you want me to point out something? OK, how about this. The letter Obama did write a letter to former President of France Chiraq. In response to a letter Chiraq wrote to Obama. Asking for Obama's support for his charity work in Africa. Nothing about that letter indicated, in any way shape or form that Obama believed he was addressing the current president of France. When read in the proper context, the letter is quite clearly exactly what it is, Obama replying to a correspondence from a respected former head of state.

And for what it's worth, if you ever want to have more posts than 2 around here, may I recommend an attitude adjustment? Snarkiness and egotism is all well and good, when you're right. When its pointed out how you're wrong, it just makes you look more of a dumbass.

Oh, let's not forget trying to talk to the old President of France...

So? He was talking to him as the former president of France. Thats not allowed? Despite what the right wing blogs say, research (quick and painless research at that) will show you that he actually did not think he was president at the time.

As for the OP, its April Fools day.

What he actually gave her.

what she gave him was a portrait of the royal couple. She was probably expecting something crappy considering Brown got a few DVD's, but ended up getting something silghtly better.

"Her Royal Highness bequeathed to the Obamas one of the earliest known copies of William Shakespeare's Henry V." was an even bigger give away if you kow that the Queen pretty much always gives out framed pictures of herself.

This is an April Fool's joke -- not that I think the reality was much better. From what I understand, he gave Her Majesty an iPod loaded with footage of her last visit to the States, and a copy of the book for the musical "The King and I" signed by Richard Rogers.

It's slightly less embarassing than a bunch of DVDs.

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2009/4/1/715633/-Loon-Freakout-Over-President-Obamas-iPod-Gift

"That they were offended over this triviliality was enough comedy to warrant a mid-week Loon Watch, but the fact that the Queen requested the iPod and that her former spokesman said the Obamas "scored a hit" sealed the deal: a Loon Watch was called for."

Turns out he got her exactly the right gift.

Edit: Also apparently gave her a rare songbook signed by Richard Rogers.

LOL!

All I could think about was some geriatric taking m&m's believing they were medication, and downing more and more cheap alcohol to further thus said geriatric's disillusion of the world around her.

Oh, wait, that summed up the Queen quite well.

Trolling Queen ftw. :3
