Is anybody else tempted to buy a Nintendo DS "just in case"

After last years "It's an April Fool's Joke, wait, not it isn't!" fake-out (I still can't believe the actual UN, the real United Frikkin' Nations, thought it necessary to issue an ultimatum to this fantabulous game) I've been approaching NS news announcements with a little bit of skepticism, never quite sure what's really going on. Now we receive this perfectly timed update on a new NS version, clearly intended to be an April Fool's Day joke...and I'm not so sure. I find myself wondering "What if Max has been working on this in secret all along?" What if there really is a portable NationStates on the horizon?

I don't plan on actually going out and buying a Nintendo DS right now, I'll wait a bit to see what the real scoop is, but I find myself hopeful, dreaming of the potential for this game, and praying that maybe this is a real-news bit like last year.

Is anybody else hoping for a real handheld version?

This friend of mine plays the DS. She used to be hot and cool, and then one of my other friends ruined her. Now she's a bit of a nerd. Still hot, though.

That was Ferrous Oxide's "Random Thought of the Day".

I already have a DS, sadly my kids keep running the batteries down playing Sudoku.

I could make a comment but it might just spark a fanboiz war of sorts so I won't.

I have a DS because it was cheap and pink and came with a puppy game.

lol "beginning to attract some attention... just like us!"

GTA Chinatown Wars for the DS is awesome. if NS-DS was like that, with guns and hookers and crack, then it would be cool

Let's be honest here, you add guns, hookers and crack to just about anything and its level of awesomeness skyrockets.

If it weren't for the pictures, I wouldn't have known what a DS was, but I really liked the joke anyway. :)

Damned good reason to buy anything I suppose. "You say this here crystal meth will turn my world into Candy Land and my farts into sunshine and rainbows all for 20 bucks a quarter?!?"

You know, if this was real, I might actually spring for a DS. That and I would play the Brain Academy games *watches real-life GPA slide*.

I can already access the REAL NationStates on my PSP. I don't need a Nintendo.

Ah, but does your newfangled PSP have access to the undoubtedly awesome new features being designed solely for the DS game? I didn't think so.

Wait...I have a PSP....holy crap, you mean I could use that thing to play NS? What the hell am I still doing with this computer?

The PSP typing system is somewhat cumbersome, to say the least. That's why.

Because the PSPs browser is clunky and sucks ass. I prefer the slick way Safari handles on my iPod Touch.

The bottom of the page says it's being marketed for the Commodore 64. I'm pretty sure it's an April Fool's joke.

That said, I already own a DS, so I'm covered in the event I'm wrong.

Do you own a CycloDS? I'd recommend it if you don't, a really useful resource for turning your DS into more than just a game system.

http://www.cyclopsds.com/

It basically allows you to put content (including firmware like an operating system and mp3 player) onto an SD card, and then insert this into the Cyclo and insert the Cyclo into your DS, allowing you do things like listen to music or play games loaded onto the SD card as ROM images.

no. i've little enough resources as it is to squander them on anything i can't use as a tool for creating, exploring or surviving.

considering the general flavour of much of the discussion here, and the nature and orientation of much, if not nearly all of the rollplay, i think the real united nations, if it did, very much had a point.

several in not wishing us to in any way be confused with them.

remote as it must seem, such odd things do happen on web.

but i still don't see that as even a little bit motivating me to shell out for something i can't expect to get as much gratification out of as things i CAN use, to create, explore and survive with.

Hmm...the ad hasn't disappeared, despite our progress to the post-Fool April 2. Could this, perhaps, indicate a kernel of truth?
