Names for the parts of your body.

I felt that this had to be formalized. Do ye of NSG have names for the appendages of thine own body, and if so, what be the appendages and their names?

The world of fiction is rife with this, from Psych's Burton Guster and 'The Super Sniffer' to Captain Hammer's...'Hammer,' or even in real life, for everybody already knows of Goofballs' Goofballs and the fact that Chuck Norris' legs are named Law and Order.

I myself refer to my right foot as 'Socktor' and my left as 'Heel-er.' I know, it's weird, but I refuse to believe that I am alone.

So, NSG, what be the names of thine components?

Something is "Richard Burton." I'm not going into any more detail.

Well this long thing protuding from the left of my thigh area is called a leg. This other long thing protuding from the right of my thigh is also called a leg. This third long thing...well I've received compliments.

I don't name parts of my body as I don't think they are unique and thus warranting a name. I was going to simply number them (in case of detachment and subsequent misidentification) and get that number tattooed on the parts. But apparently the old Jewish tattoo artist didn't think that was a good idea. I don't know what his problem was, other than surely being the only old Jewish tattoo artist in existence. Although I do name my sperm, since, potentially, they could become people and I have to respect the life of someone who could potentially become a person. I use online random name generators; my current favorite is the Lovecraftian Name Generator (http://www.seventhsanctum.com/generate.php?Genname=lcnamer).

Didn't Hammurab decide it was the "Hebrew Hammer"? I thought that was kinda catchy. :tongue:

I can imagine it now. The sight of one of your children inspiring instant madness. Somehow, I felt this coming a long way off.

Yeah, that got stolen from me too. And since 'Watchmen,' anything Dr. Manhattan related is right out the window.

You see, in the case of my third long thing...others have called it "a leg".

It's an understandable mistake.

Yes, one appendage does have a nick-name given to him by someone special.
Yet, no, thou shall not know his name.

Well after spending several years marooned by myself with nobody to talk to on a deserted island I named my left big toe Horace.

I like to use Milanese words for my body parts:
examples:
navel = bamborin (bahm-boo-rEEn)
thumb = didon (dee-dOOn)
head = crapa (krAH-pah)
foot = pè (pEH)
knee = genoeucc (jeh-nÖtch)
mouth = bocca (bOO-kah)
stomach = stomegh (stOH-mehk)
nail = ongia (OOn-jah)
penis = usell (ü-zEHl)
testicles = maron (mAH-roon), ball (bAHll)
buttocks = ciapp (tchyAHp)
anus = bus del cu (bÜs dEHl kÜ)

As for giving them proper names, not: I don't want my body parts to get strange ideas about autonomy and self-determination.

Don't know if this counts, but...

My parents told me that as a baby I used to say "belly bottom" instead of "belly button." I don't remember doing this, so I can't say whether it was just a childish mispronunciation or if I actually believed that all people have a frontal anus.

Of Spanish, I rather enjoy these words:

Culete- butt
Tetucas- breasts
Puchero- mouth

Whats sad, and I mean truly sad, is that I actually do. I broke my arm playing hockey a few years back, and the break was so severe that the doctors had to surgically insert metal apparati into my arm to allow the bone to recalcify around it. I have a scar on my hand that looks like a pair of eyes, so I would periodically, when extremely bored, torment my father with the spider-like "Handius Maximus". My fingers (index and thumb), serve as fangs/venom ducts, and also as two of five legs (he's a tad awkward mobility concerned).

This bred a series of similar namings: my left hand is now "Handius Wrongius", my feet are "Footius Leftius" and "Rightius" respectively. Ultimately, I came up with a name for basically every single biological part of me, some having multiple names. It amuses me greatly. :tongue:

Oh man, how could I have forgotten?! Your story reminded me that my boyfriend and I have a name for his left hand; he has two freckles on the outside of his pointer finger, and these look like the eyes if he makes a "Knucklehead" fist (like from Pee Wee's Playhouse). I named this character "Handrew."
