Good present for a 21 year old

So anyway a mate is turning 21 soon and me being a mate am going off to his party to celebrate it in a style that is fitting for a 21 year old (even if I am 23).

One conundrum has arisen, however, the lad doesn't drink, so apart from that meaning that we are going to have to drink his share it also means that I am now stumped for a gift for the boy.

Usually a bottle of Johnnie Black or Bundy Silver or even a carton of good beer would be what I normally purchase for these sort of occasions. As the boy doesn't drink I must now think of something more appropriate to give to him.

So when I am faced with these problems I turn to NSG where I hope they can help me in suggesting new ideas. So I ask NSG to tell me what they think I should give him, the budget sits somewhere between $AU45-$AU70.

Actually I also have a 25th to go to this weekend, he has requested no presents but since he brought me something small to my 23rd earlier this year I should repay the favour, anybody have any suggestions?

Video games are always a good choice. GTA IV. *nods* Or Fall Out 3.... (for PC of course because consoles suck for video games).

A specially bound bible, with a bookmark with his name on, then. Obv.

I guess that budget means a hooker is out of the question.

I dunno, I think $40 would be well over the odds for one freshly shipped in from New Zealand (she'll wear a sheep suit for just $10 more!).

Who gives a Bible to an atheist? Though I should have mentioned that.

Actually he does have them but they cost about $100-$110 per game, well that is on his console but not to sure on his computer capabilities. I think PC games are cheaper too.

Thanks for the first sensible suggestion.

lol, swear to God, he is atheist because he doesn't believe that there is a higher power like god and he won't drink and do drugs because he has seen what happens to people when they go to far. At least he doesn't moralise us when we do it in front of him.

He does gamble quite a bit, however.

Maybe if we go to town and we get to a strip club I can buy him a dance that costs $50.

Yes... PC is infinitely cheaper (especially when you can get second hand). Especially when something is bought via Steam.

If he had a PS2, I'd suggest Katamari Damacy or We Love Katamari (older games, which could probably found second hand). Very strange games. But incredibly fun.

He doesn't drink? What a loser. I bet he doesn't have a girlfriend, then... Hmmm...

Here's an idea: go out and buy some really dirty vintage porno mags. No kidding, people collect that stuff and it is hilarious. You can get them pretty cheap, too. Wrap them in a newspaper or put them in a paper grocer's bag and close it with a little duct tape.

Actually he does have a girlfriend and a very attractive one at that.

Just because you need to get yourself plastered and hang around women who are so drunk they see every guy as Brad Pitt to get laid doesn't mean everyone else does. :)

Yeah I was thinking that unfortunately other mates have already laid claim to these things, and he is a bit of an activity nut.

Yeah good idea, however, he has pretty much everything related to poker, proper table, very good poker set, good quality set of cards.

Then combine his love of poker with the aforementioned casino chip suggestion: have a party in a casino. Eat, drink (non-alcoholic in his case), gamble, have a nice poker game, enjoy the shows.
Total costs will be higher than the mentioned budget - but hey. You are then also spending it on yourself ;)

Truth be told, with a few hits of Meth you'll get one advantage: he'll definitely age quicker! You can tell a meth addict because they're usually about 25 and look as though they're sixty. Meth addicts look like zombies.

. *nods* Or Fall Out 3.... (for PC of course because consoles suck for video games).

Now that's silly. I say this as a firm PC supremecist, too, because some video game genres work better on a console than they do on a PC, mainly due to control issues.

Fallout III, however, does most assuredly belong on the PC, as does any other RPG of that nature. (Or perhaps RPGs period. Really, we need to open them all up to modification, not just the Western style.)

Once you play it, you'll have to wonder what the creators were on. It's insanely fun and has a reasonable learning curve. We Love Katamari is more forgiving than Katamari Damacy though...

In general I find PCs are better. Of course, there are some games made for the console; I agree with you on that. Like Sonic 2. It's not the same when I play it with a Genesis emulator on my computer. /hijack

How about a rock to the back of the head? When (if) he wakes up the next morning just tell him he was a total riot at the party and you've never seen anybody shotgun beer like that. He'll be a drinker now.

While a Book does show thought. unless you know what's in the person's library... it's hit or miss.

BUT GIVING HIM THE RUN OF THE BOOKSTORE? always a hit.

especially if it caters towards his interests. an Antique Bookstore for the lover of classics for example.
