Lahore police academy 'retaken'

Pakistani security forces say they have taken control of a police academy that was seized by a group of gunmen.

Television footage showed paramilitary troops celebrating on the roof of the compound, near Lahore, after they had besieged the building for eight hours.

Up to 40 people were reported to have been killed and 80 injured, but the situation remains confused.

Officials said at least four of the militants had been killed and several others had been arrested.

Well I don't really know what to make of the situation. On the one hand, its horrible but on the other hand Pakistan is fast becoming the centre of large attacks in major cities and the security forces can't seem to handle it. These attacks will, in my opinion, raise tensions in the area. Things are tense enough on the India front and on the other side you have reports of the US attacking suspected Taliban militants within Pakistans borders.

That guy who can make his voice sound like a megaphone will have talked them out of the building soon

Oh, come off it. Oftentimes I see a news article that is worth discussing, and I can't think of anything substantial to say either.

Anyway, as for the events...

It's a little sad that a police academy could be taken over...hopefully the Pakistanis will be able to avoid that sort of thing from now on. It's not good for the stability of social order.
