Dish Soap

I said I'd do it, people thought I was kidding but here it is...

NSG's first thread on one of life's great unecesary necesities, Dish Detergent. What brand do you use, do you even really have a preference? While we are at it is there any particular order that you wash your dishes in?

I use Dawn, the plain ol' blue kind that smells like... I guess dish soap is supposed to smell like. I always wash the cups first, then plates, bowls, silverware and all the big things.

for dish soap, palmolive orange scented antibacterial. For the dishwasher, cascade with bleach (currently lemon scented)

For washing dishes, it depends what is in the sink at the time. I like to get big stuff out of the way so it doesn't block the drain, then pots and pans, then bowls and such.

are we having a contest for who can start the most boring, random and irrelevant thread?

Ashmoria, I am looking at the front page and I see... nothing at all in any way shape of form interesting or relevant any longer so I figured what the hell...

Besides, some people actually anticipated this :p.

If so I've got a potential winner waiting in reserve for an opportunity like this.

As for dish soap I don't really have preference. Whatever is available pretty much. I've moved around to much in the last few years to really settle down on a favourite.

I use Earth, usually with an apple or citrus scent.

The order I do my washing in is utensils, glasses, plates and bowls and then the larger items such as pots and pans.

I use whatever's cheapest. Right now, for the dishwasher, Finish and for stuff that can't go in the dishwasher, Ajax.

I'll probably go to Sam's tomorrow and get giant economy sizes of both.

I don't do dishes in any particular order, just get the stuff that goes in the dishwasher out of the way first, then stuff, like good china (hah!), that can't go in the diswasher, then pet food dishes - hey, I wash my dishes when I use them, don't they deserve the same hygenic consideration?

So why this particular interest in dishwashing?

Actually, it shouldn't be surprising, as there was a thread on bed making a while ago.

What's next, how to do the laundry?

That's actually a good idea.

Shotgun!

No if someone else wants to start it up they can.

Hmm.. do you seperate whites from colors, do you use bleach, timed dry or permanent press, do you fold them right away.... I could make a thread about that!

But serious if there is a problem with the thread report it as spam. *shrugs*

If you add a poll it can't be spam. ;)

It's cheapest to make your own. If you have the time to do so anyway. But it really doesn't take long at all. Especially for dishwasher detergent.

These are two of the best "recipes."

Whatever's on sale. If nothing's on sale, whichever one has the nicest looking bottle :D

Which is more often than not the most exoensive one.

If nothing's on sale, I still get the most economical - keeping in mind that cheapest does not mean best value.

How is asking about one's favorite brand of dish-soap worse than asking about one's favorite brand of cigarettes?

Separating the whites and the colors? What are you, some kind of laundry racist? I suppose you want all your clothes to be KKKlean, don't you?

As for dishes, I generally buy whatever soap is cheapest, and I wash the glasses first, then the plates, then the pots and pans, and finally the silverware.

Dawn mostly, the plain blue kind as I've found it works quite well.

The delicate / breakable stuff first to get it safely out of the way, then larger to smaller, unless stuff is really cooked on - then it gets soaked in the hottest water available.

I use Sun Light dish detergent. It's what I used at my dad's house, and it's pretty much the only soap I've used. It gets the job done. That and I have one of those "economy" bottles from Costco... :$ you know, those huge bottles that never run out. I bought it over 2 years ago, and it's not even 1/4 empty.

For laundry, since I have all dark clothing, I use either Woolite or Cheers for darks.

Generally supermarket own-brand stuff, which is pretty much the same as Fairy.

As far as dish soap is concerned, I use lemon-scented Joy. It's a Dawn knockoff.
