What music do you like?

Just wondering what NSG's musical tastes are like. Do you like rock? Opera?

Poll coming.

Also, I'm looking for some music to enjoy, and I was wondering if anyone could help me please? What I'm looking for are songs with no lyrics and there's a female singing solo as part of the background music. I know there's "An Ocean of Memories" by James Horner in the Titanic soundtrack, but she only sings for parts of the song, and I would like songs where she sings most of the time. I'm not looking for opera though, too dramatic. And for the record, I'm not looking to pirate music, just buy cd's and albums on best buy or barnes and noble and stuff like that.

The help would be much appreciated. :) And no, You don't have to help if you don't wanna.

Some rock and most metal. The rock I like is mostly alternative, grunge, hardcore punk, and emo. And the metal is...basically almost every kind. The closest thing to what you're looking for is probably symphonic metal.

Aphex Twin is my favorite artist of the moment. Makes nice music, Xtal (the YouTube link up there) and On being my favorite songs. The video for that Xtal isn't too nice though.
Mostly, I like pretty much anything with a preference for rock and classical.

I'm a massive rock/metal fan. From the 70's onwards.

Classic rock, prog rock, and symphonic metal are my faves.

Music to enjoy hey? Well you've just entered my terrain, though I can't really help you with your main quest:

www.myspace.com/dondark0 - Goes by the name of Tab. A musician/rapper/singer/songwriter/producer who is very talented. Scroll down his page to download his mixtapes for free. I highly recommend the mix of Mad World. An incredibly brave song to try and mix and he pulls it off magnificiently.

Park (www.myspace.com/parkuk) - A great little band from near Manchester. I've listened to them for ages, its a shame they aren't bigger.

www.myspace.com/jennadonnelly - A band called Controller, their lead singer named Jenna Donnelly. Incredible voice.

I'll just let you listen to those. If you like them I'll get more stuff, if not then that's fine.

In that case may I suggest Porn Groove (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porn_groove)? As for my own musical taste, it ranges, but most metal and the pioneers of such music (Deep Purple to Exodus and etc...) is at the top of my list along with punk (mostly of the hardcore variety such as D.O.A.).

Black Sabbath are normally defined as pioneers of metal. If you get pissed off when someone calls Sabbath metal, it at least suggests that you need to research about it more, since it's the standard position. To claim they aren't metal is the unorthodox position. But, as captain obvious of me as this is, it's a pretty subjective term.

Basically what Skallvia said, it is fairly shit, usually just a single repetitive sound with lyrics chucked in that sometimes make no sense. I like it because it is usually something that is easy to listen to and you can even sing along to it (with a few obvious exceptions such as Miley Cryus and Jonas Brothers), but basically because I enjoy listening to it.

i'm not sure, haven't had much incentive to keep up with, how genre titles are currently being used, but the last i heard, i big part of what i like was, the last i checked, dubbed "berlin shool ambient electronica" sometimes also called or labled "sound sculpture" as it isn't intrinsicly required to adhear to familiar or established forms, but rather like poetry and "classical music", to evoke internal imagery.

one requirement i have for any music that has a vocal track, as nearly all the above, what i'm meaning by the above, does not, is for it to be in a language i don't understand or deal with benignly unusual subject matter such as the folk music of imaginary folk such as in science fiction and fantasy (the latter somewhat semi-officially known as "filk", deliberately spelled with an i instead of an o, to distinguish it from the more mundane).

Yes, I have. I've heard most of the subgenres of metal - all sound like shit. Every time I voice my opinion on metal music, people bring up these subgenres as if they're the most accessible or of a higher quality. In reality, I'd rather stick screwdrivers in my ears then listen to Nightwish or Apocalyptica again. It's dire.

Sounds like shit. Really, really bad shit.

You may not like it, still there's no reason for you to call it shit. You belittle those who enjoy this kind of music.

Uh, what? Of course I get to call it shit, just like you get to call my taste shit (if you wish to). If you're so attached to your preference for shit music that you're offended when someone points it out to you, that's quite pitiful, really.

That's the abysmal difference between you and I. I just don't call a genre of music shit, I may not like it, but I have no right to call it shit. Of course, your retort is quite pitiful but this is the net, so, what the heck.

You have every right to call it shit, just as I do. I'm not calling the fans shit, I'm calling the music shit (which, in my opinion, it is).

And I already told you that there's an abysmal difference between you and me. I wouldn't call it shit, just because I don't like it.

So it seems. I recognise that there's undoubtedly positive musical qualities within the metal genre - talented musicians, complex melodies and so on, but it's a horrible, cheese-ridden parody of itself. All the positive qualities within the genre are overshadowed by an epic amount of shit: complex melodies hidden by shitty singing, awful lyrics etc. All the positives in the world are too few to overcome the buckets of shit pouring out of every metal band.

I call it shit because it sounds like shit. It's a description.

Now, that's a great improvement from just labeling shit. Good on you Get-sama.

Little bit of everything. Mostly rock and metal. A little bit of new age.
