Time!?

Can anyone help me? I'm confused as to what the time is? It may sound stupid but I never know whether the clocks go backwards or forwards. This morning I got up an hour earlier than I intended (which really pissed me off). Do the go Back in British summer time (DST to you yanks) or forwards?

The time is currently 1006 hours GMT.

I wasn't sure how to answer your question so I figure this is the most helpful way.

TYVM,

Does anyone now if the clocks change symaltainiously(spelling?) around the world? If not, what's the difference between them?

Nope; the Europeans, for instance, go forward on the last Sunday in March, the Australians and Kiwis go back on the first Sunday in April, the Yanks and Canucks go forward on the 2nd Sunday in March.

At the very least, we could have a uniform switch date.

I agree, you guys should synchronise with us, seeing as it was a brit who devised the idea.

Some countries don't do it do they?

Just remember 'spring forward'. That means the clocks go forward in the early part of teh year.

Though frankly, the whole thing is a government plot.

Yes, I could help you. I could explain what I think time to be. It's stupid, but clocks don't actually go anywhere. It would rather defeat the point of having one if you had to estimate how far away it would be, when you really just wanted to know the time.

I think we should go back to Sunshine Time. When the sun isn't shining, the sundial doesn't work and you have to guess.

Personally I ignore it, luckily with flexitime I can turn up for work an hour later in summer. Much better than screwing up my sleep cycle.

No, ones that are close enough to the Equator don't need to. Ghana for example.

The one on my computer has but the one on the forum hasn't (but that's still in GMT not in BST). I changed the time on my phone last night and set my alarm, I got up and went out an hour early.

For some reason the state governments have decided to extend our daylight saving, I think because it makes people feel good or some such bs, but it is getting dark by 6:45 nowadays anyway.

Actually it's on my side, it just pretends to be on yours.
Kinda like the Nazi-Soviet Pack, it's pretending to be on your side, but soon it will creep on your western front.

So, this is some kind of fantasy where the girl comes running to you, to save her from a scarey spider or something, and then you get to save her again an hour later, after she has forgotten the half hour of arguing about whether you deliberately or accidentally touched her breast with yours when she kissed you in gratitude for saving her from the curds and whey or whatever they were. The scarey things, anyway.

You're always saying, that you want to be free.

Kinda like the Nazi-Soviet Pack,

Damn, I missed that one. I got the Nazi Warplanes Pack, it was pretty good but the aviators stop below the chest, where you can't see inside the cockpit cowling. Well, 1:144, that's what you get for the money.

As long as Old Father Time isn't creeping on my flank, I say all's fair in love and war.

Sorry if I stole your thunder.

I'd say it is definitely war. Time stops for no man.

EDIT: or to be politicly correct- time stops for no man or woman

Why doubly? Because time seems to go twice as fast during your lunch break?

The whole thing just confuses me. Someone in my house changed the wall clocks at midnight instead of 2am and my laptop and phone change automatically so my mind was blown for a while. Every country should change at the same time.

It warps and twists, sometimes going slow so as to throw us off our stride and sometimes fast to force us to scarf down our piping hot pasta.

Time is relative and and depends on the temperature of your linguini.

Time is strange. It goes quickly and slowly for different people. It's kind of like beauty, in the eye of the beholder.

Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
Fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way

Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain
And you are young and life is long and there is time to kill today
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

And you run and you run to catch up with the sun, but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death

Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time
Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way
The time is gone, the song is over, thought I'd something more to say

Home, home again
I like to be here when I can
And when I come home cold and tired
It’s good to warm my bones beside the fire
Far away across the field
The tolling of the iron bell
Calls the faithful to their knees
To hear the softly spoken magic spells.

And talking about wasting time I had better get off NSG and back to my work.

The switch from standard time to DST and back always screws up my life (and my sleep) for a week or so. I hate it with a passion. Let's choose one or the other and leave it that way forever.

We only have GMT over here because we tried it in the war, and the Scots wanted to keep it. Now literally hundreds more kids are hit by cars in England and Wales in the dark months, just for the sake of fucking Scotland.

It is the lyrics for Time by Pink Floyd.

If you haven't heard it I suggest you hurry up and do so, excellent song and one I can listen to again and again probably because it speaks to me but then again the entire album is a classic. The music is amazing.

In fact here is a recording for you.
