To be honest, I agree; it's petty to call this fascism.

Besides, social networks are beginning to hegemonize on what was once a much freer order, and generally one more reliant on actually, y'know, going outside and talking to people?

Yeah, so if anything, it's a positive step in disincentivising the use of social networking sites, which are, if anything, fascist in themselves. (This especially applies to Murdoch's MySpace)

Also, they're boringly trivial.

What kind of terrorists are using Facebook or Myspace chats to pass information anyway? Are they terrorizing the pubs on weekends with alcohol-fueled violence? Are they striking fear into the hearts of those who harbor some optimism for humanity's future with their inanity and immaturity?

Frankly, Brown will not get re-elected. Not after all this.

But to call this fascism... Seems a bit knee-jerk.

Although it is somewhat authoritarian.

Is it petty to call this fascism? Yes. Is it a needless, inefficient, and completely idiotic act, as well as arguably being a privacy violation? Yes. Are these sites stupid? To me, yes. To many people, no. Ours are not the only opinions. And how are those sites fascist themselves?

By reinforcing the acceptance of an increasing social disconnection in society; on the one hand you meet other 'people', but 'people' become far more limited in their expression to those profiles.

I like how the Home office says they don't know if Bin Laden is talking on Facebook.

I wonder how many friends he has on his facebook profile?

Do you think his status says something like "Osama Bin Laden is planning an attack on the 2012 London Olympics"? :p

But yeah I'm not really a big fan on governments checking up on their citizens all the time.

But, seriously, I wanna know what thats all about, Ive heard the term before, yet, we had ALOT of FEMA involvement down here, and we didnt have anything like that, unless you count the little trailer parks that were for people without homes...

Actually, those people are fighting desperately to hold on to them, which, for the record Im in support of, I think its pretty shitty to take their homes from them, AGAIN...

News should only come from sanctioned quasi-governmental sources.

Who is that at the door.....
The State of It
26-03-2009, 11:43
We are the most surveillanced state in the world.

In the Houses of Parliament, there is no longer a choice, only different shades of Right-Wing, all playing at attacking each other for the management of essentially the same policy as each other before adjourning to scoff and drink in the same old pal's clubs and to jaunt about multi-billionaire's yachts.

Society is dead, as people will knife each other for a fiver, and people can die alone in their flats and not be discovered dead for a year and a half.

People don't have time to care for their neighbour, not even knowing their name, or not even caring.

Too busy stepping on other people's necks, and worshipping vapid, narcisstic celebrities, wanting the new car, wanting the new big television, now, now, now.

Keeping up with the Jones', have two cars, dog, kids, they're the ultimate fashion accessory.

Feral kids run riot on the streets while feral politicians take us on illegal global trips of war on the coat tails on a mad bunch of neo-cons in The White House, setting a wonderful example.

People spotting trains or those that survived the holocaust and then tell a government minister he is talking rubbish at a party conference can be arrested on anti-terrorism laws, and manhandled away, out of sight.

The swindlers, pillagers and murderers are on the streets and in the seats of power, and more and more civil and political freedoms are being curtailed.

Soon, everything about you will be on record. Everything. You will not be able to escape the machine, you will not be able to escape big brother.

But I have nothing to hide, you miserably whine, I have nothing to fear.

Let yourselves be under the observance of the murderers, swindlers and pillagers then, those that take you on illegal wars, those that feed from the golden troughs and who will ruthlessly deal with anyone in their way, anyone who opposes them.

I won't stand in their way, I'll get on with my life, you cowardly slobber, but to them you are just a cog in the machine, they will do with you as they see fit.

They know everything about you after all. You can not escape. Your hide is theirs. Pawn. Pawned. Pwned.

Essentially no form of communication is treated as private. All forms of electronic communication are monitored. How effective a method this actually is would be something I would like to know - I suspect it costs an enormous amount to very little effect. This Ben Goldacre article seems to suggest this would be the case

This sort of thing doesn't bother me at all. I really don't care if anyone reads my Facebook pages. All the Govt will find out is what films I like and what I had for tea. I've also heard they are using it to track benefit cheats (people claiming single benefit but actually married) - I'm all for this if it stops some of societies leeches.
I really don't think the Govt expects to stop terrorism through Facebook, but is sending the message out that they are using ALL methods available to make their communication difficult.

Right. That's the sort of thing you might actually find on such sites.

Full-blown plots to incinerate several city blocks are rather less likely to be found. Those sorts of terrorists cells are generally far more discrete.

Live in a nice area then don't you? That or you carry a white stick and have a guide dog.

No kids where you are to terrify elderly people at night in their homes, or threatening people with knifes, being piss and coke heads or attacking people for no reason.

Not that adults set a good example, or politicians.

I'm tempted to cry 'troll'; this blatantly attacks my age demographic and if I didn't know any better, I'd quite rightly vilely verbally retaliate.

And no, I live in one of the shittiest areas in Scotland; it's still relatively quiet to the vile you spew. That's probably the most violent and ferality-inspired bile I've seen all day; it had to come from a person who attacks the youth based on the same claims of their behavior. Hypocritical much?

Nope, along Walmgate - the Yacro centre is right by the Early Music Learning Centre (and not a lot of people know that). TBH they're all on their best behaviour so near to the hostel, so never really have any problems.

Never lived in Tang Hall, never really want to - or Acomb for that matter, where all the Tang Hall kiddies go when they grow up and get real criminal records.
