Computer Peripherals

What kind of peripherals/things do you need (or you prefer) to enjoy gaming and general use of a computer?

For me, I like a minimum 19" convex CRT screen,
for that true immersive feeling, more alive colors, better flexibility in resolutions and refresh rates.
Mouse-wise, I crave and very much need a uniform trackball mouse with two buttons,scroll-wheel and a cord.
Lastly I also absolutely prefer a rubber base, cloth-covered mouse pad.

Except for a cord to my keyboard and head-set, all other things I can vary as I want.
The cords are because I want them to be reliable and don´t want to spend extra money on batteries when it is not needed.

So what set-up do you prefer or use?

26 inches of glorious widescreen LCD beauty from Samsung.

edit: Not here at work. Here I have an HP widescreen that looks like it's probably 20 inches or so. But at home, *drool*

Very nice!
Too bad they are so rare to get CRT-wise, and very pricey.

i don't like CRT screens any more, don't get on with trackballs, use wired peripherals as little as possible, and really dislike mousepads. looks like i'd be very grumpy with your set-up :P

in the office:
- 23" second LCD (first is 17" laptop one)
- wireless microsoft optical mouse (very reliable)
- fingerprint protected flash drive for passwords
- occasional usb headphones for music (i like keeping my main sound card on mute in case the phono socket comes unplugged)

at home:
- usb mouse. that is all.

i'm going to get myself a wacom graphics pad soon, but just not sure when (when i have the money).

I have always thought they would be very uncomfortable drawing on.
Not enough space.

I use a optical mouse at work and a trackball at home. Normal keyboard = 104-key Windows keyboards. No ergonomic, or curves or nothing just a straight standard keyboard. Also never a USB keyboard. Often times they will not work during the reboot and why would I want to use a USB slot when they have a special port made just for it?

Mouse I think I would go with a trackball most of the time mostly because of price. I like flat screens mostly because they take up less space and not as hot.

What do you feel is the differences between optic and trackball?
Seeing as how you use both regularly.

104..Hmm, I counted mine, and found 105 plus sleep,homepage,mail,rwnd,stop,play/pause,frwd,volume down, mute and volume up.
Ah, might be the åäö I have on mine, but then I´m out 2 keys instead..

Agreed on the USB.

indeed :p

better than a mouse, though. i'm not really good at drawing, i just want to use it to help speed up my photoshop/DTP work. the extra screen is also fantastic for that - you can duplicate a photoshop window so that one screen shows what you're working on, and the other shows the whole picture in full. extra screen is also great for web work - put PuTTY full screen on it and its like your server is right there next to you. want more screens :D

Ah, ok.
Sounds pretty handy.

Hmm, since I´m left-handed but use the mouse with my right hand..
I see options opening up for me there.

For work and interwebs, just Dell 3007WFPs.

For movies and 3d games I really like, I use the Barco 909 projector. Three 9" cathode ray tubes, liquid cooled, liquid coupled lenses, electromagnetic focus, digital convergence, 3200x2500 resolution.

The rest of peripherals, won't bother to look up all the models, many are old. Except for the keyboard, it's all the three teks - Saitek, Fanatec, Logitech.

With that kind of computer peripherals, don't you have a hard time seeing things in your peripheral view? ,)

Not too much, really. Just an LCD widescreen monitor; I can't go back to CRT or standard screen.

Optical is alright. Trackball is pretty close. I don't find either more accurate. I would not use a wireless. The only thing good about optical is you don't need a mouse pad.

I don't have sleep, stop, play, pause, FFwd, volume down or up. Mostly because I would never use them. I am old school I always look for the speaker icon. If I have speakers they usually have a volume knob.

By the way does anyone actually use the number pad for directions? If you have a laptop you are excused. I mean if you have a desktop. The number pad should only be for numbers. Num lock is permanently set to on. Also scroll lock and pause break are pretty much useless. Print screen only rarely.

I use scroll lock and print screen all the time at work.

I too use speakers with a knob, set on the right side, not on the front as some used to have.

Only in Phantasy Star Online.
Pause break and scroll lock is rarely used.
Printscreen is used pretty frequently though.

Anything will do. I don't like graphic-intensive games - I go mostly for strategy and management. Only exception being Descent, but I used to play it on a 14" crt and a keyboard, and that's all. Oh, and I also liked X-Wing and TIE Fighter - I used a joystick for that.

As for general use, I hate touchscreens. Plus, while many people I know dislike touchpads, I feel perfectly comfortable with one.

Chucking it into a Samsung 37" LCD TV via HDMI. Glad I got a new graphics card otherwise my PC might have blown up.

Razer mouse, Saitek glowing keyboard. Makes me feel like I should be able to play games well....

I would if I had to worry about the peripheral view. It's in the home theater room, so what would I have to look out for though.

BTW, checked the keyboard, it's an old Cherry with mechanical switches. I'm such an oldfag that I can't ever get to replace it, and it isn't ever going to break down on its own.

And you would have to reinforce something to hold it up.
