AIG bailout CHANGE we can believe in.

Okay, this thread is a spin-off of the other one about AIG. It's a plan I have to get the people from NSG to call their congresspeople and tell them to try and make it so that the bailout money is paid in coins - preferably nothing higher than a dime or a quarter.

We need to get this on the news somehow and start sort of a grassroots movement...

It'd be the ultimate prank! And I WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE! :D

Galloism fully supports this idea, and, given he lost his job in no small part due to those assholes, volunteers to assist in the dumping of the rolls into unmanageable piles and driving the trucks needed to hand them over.

Then, we can tax them 100%.

All in all, they lose money. Win all the way around! (except for them, of course)

I probably will in the morning, actually. There's not a chance in hell this gets moving, but for the lulz factor it must be tried.

As I said, I volunteer as a coin dumper and truck driver. Free of charge.

If more people call, even thinking this won't get moving, it WILL get moving.

Just make sure, folks, you add that "A nutcase from Belo Horizonte who goes by the name Heikoku 2 suggested" ;)

We just need to get this flying, LG. I mean it, this is NOT A JOKE. We may well see this happening if we apply.

[practical consideration]You realize it's going to cost millions extra to find all those coins, count them, and then deliver them by the truckload, right? It's going to actually cost us more money?[/pc]

I'm not only sure some people will volunteer but also fairly certain that AIG might well end up refusing those bonuses. Plus, if this becomes a circus, AIG will lose more and more in publicity. At any rate, retax them 100%.

I say it should be the bonuses, not the bailout. We could charge them for cost of handling.

But how will this benefit you? It would surely line the pockets of the political class but you would still be unemployed. Is spite really so important to you that you would contribute to the destruction of an internation corporation and the unemployment of everyone currently on its payroll?

Wow. And people think I'm a dick.

How does taxing the bonuses of the executives that didn't earn it destroy an international corporation again?

I didn't support any bailout, I'm just asking how instituting a 100% tax against a specific corporation will ultimately help you. Your response seems to indicate that you don't give a damn about climbing out of the hole you fell in, you just want some company. I guess what they say about the miserable is true.

Executives != company.

In addition, the tax is only against the bonuses that the executives received from the company.

There is no extra tax against the company itself.

You know, I just don't think the congressmen or general public have the dime to see this implemented. Besides, I have a nickeling feeling that the execs would just find a way around it. In all of this fury, we have to realise that it may not be fair to hand out a sentence which is essentially the modern version of being hung, drawn, and quartered. How do you think Bond would have felt if he'd been paid in coins by MoneyPenny?

I'm suggesting that before you call, you see who has gotten the most money from AIG.

Dodd put specific language in the recent stimulus bill guaranteeing the AIG bonuses. He's also gotten 290,000 dollars from AIG over the past 20 years or so.

I suggest you use Google to find out who the number two recipient of AIG largesse currently is.

1- I didn't vote for Dodd.

2- I really don't give a shit about Dodd.

3- Feel free to make another thread about Dodd. This one is not about him. But the fact remains that, if my plan succeeds, Dodd, among others, will be stranded with millions of pennies, each and every one taxable at 100%. So, if you dislike him enough to hijack a thread that has squat to do with him, my plan will surely get you to blow off some steam.
