I was going to put it in my other Earth thread, but this link is a totally different discussion.
So looking at this simulation, we're screwed eh?

The population is increasing drastically.
And besides, the Earth has survived worse then humanity. We may kill it, but it will restart after a few millions years.
Yay! Go Gaia! Stick it to the man!

Very neat. I notice that despite their condescending attitudes and strange accents, Canada is almost as bad as us.:D
(I kid about the attitudes and accents, please don't drown me in a pool of Syrup)

I don't care if the place survives, I want it to stay habitable.

What surprised me is that the largest CO2 emission per capita is apparrently UAE, 32.28 tonnes per person per year compared with the US total of 19.66 tonnes.
Whoa screw that, Qatar is 64.14!

They probably use oil to power their country.

Undoubtedly, but they still would have to be ridiculously wasteful to get that.

They might use oil to power their own country, as well as Bahrain, Qatar, Oman and Yemen?

lol, maybe Oman and Yemen. Bahrain is almost as bad and Qatar is worse. I don't know, maybe they just enjoy setting fire to barrels of oil.

Clearly that's just filthy anti-Canadian propaganda, Canada is a great nation which has no adverse effect on the environment at all.

Will it though? What if the human race stops evolution?

Well I think this sums it up:
Please remember that this real time simulation is just that: a simulation. Although the CO2 emission, birth rate and death rate data used in Breathing Earth comes from reputable sources, data that measures things on such a massive scale can never be 100% accurate. Please note however that the CO2 emission levels shown here are much more likely to be too low than they are to be too high.
Plus I think they gathered the data from 06 on, so I'm sure it increased in 2 years.

that explains it. China surpassed the US in 07.
Funny how they seem to indicate that people dying more frequently than they are born is good. If that isn't misanthropic I don't know what is.

Natural gas comes up with the oil, and most of it is just burned off.
Will it though? What if the human race stops evolution?

Still not sure, in 2006-2007 Saudi Arabia produced about 3 times the amount of oil that UAE did and it's emissions are still much lower
http://www.opec.org/home/Production/ProductionLevels.pdf although I guess as the emissions are per capita it could be down to UAE's much lower population.
Natural gas comes up with the oil, and most of it is just burned off.
Forgot about that, it comes down to the same principle of wasting resources. Sometimes the gas has a fairly high concentration of CO2 anyway so I guess that would also be classed as emission by the country.

Gas flaring is massively wasteful, far moreso than any other source of CO2 emission on Earth (except maybe slash-and-burn logging in the rainforest...) because it is nothing more than literally burning off fossil fuels for no tangible economic benefit. It's dangerous, environmentally destructive and really doesn't save money when you consider the fact that natural gas has far, far more upside potential as the next great fossil fuel compared to oil.
