Reminders of the good in humanity.

I worked for a few hours tonight taking calls for Comic Relief and just had one of those moments where even the most cynical are reminded that there are still good people out there despite all the warnings of doom and gloom in the media.
I spoke to an old lady who called to donate and when I asked if she was happy for Comic Relief to claim giftaid on the donation she told me it could try but her income wasn't high enough to qualify. A pensioner who's income is less than £6900 a year was calling to give £10 to people less fortunate than herself.
A Comic Relief night is emotional enough as it is but that one just made me choke up.
What, if anything, have you experienced recently that made you start thinking that maybe we as a species do have a chance after all?

Today was an exceptionally bad day on my end of the internet for believing in the good in humanity.
But so you can feel even better, here's a long but absolutely devastating article (http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/africa/witch-hunt-africas-hidden-war-on-women-1642907.html) I came across last night - seems Comic Relief is really doing some good work.

It's good work but it's nowhere near enough. The last total for money raised today shown on TV was £57,000,000, a whole £17,000,000 more that the best on the night total ever raised before, 60% of which goes to Africa, and it's still not enough to scratch the surface.
The money this appeal raises is awesome but it'll never matter until the government in Europe get on board and start really helping.
I can't think of anything from firsthand experience, but whenever I start to lose hope in humanity this (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/HeartwarmingMoment/RealLife) always helps.

It's all the small things. People who stand up in public transport so the elderly can sit, someone who helps a stranger to pick up the things he dropped... these kind of things. And of course my fiancee who is the sweetest person on earth.\end{rosetintedglasses}

I won't say weather I agree, merely that the topic is "reminders of the good in humanity," not weather the good outweighs the bad.
Also, if that's your conclusion, what of it? Should we just sit down, accept that the world is a shit hole, and collectively give up? Write off our own species? What will that achieve?

I resent the implication that there is a end to the depth of my cynicism ;)
I don't know if this counts...it might be more schadenfreude than anything else, but I saw a guy push a woman out of the way so he could cross the street ahead of her and a large delivery truck came by and hit a puddle and drenched him with muddy water.
And then she pointed and laughed at him. It was great.

Hmm. I'd say that the indifference and selfdeception in humanity vastly outweighs the good.
Though one could of course call that evil as well.

that Ferrous Oxide's life is devoid of anything "good".

You mean the altruism and compassion within humanity, not the "good". I'm not a charitable person, but I can appreciate the work Comic Relief does. Mainly for the comedy.

Bullshit
We are human. We can be wield the greatest of evils or realise the good we can do. The decision is ours, how we make it depends on our actions.
Well I helped the local Homeless Outreach chapter raise $300 on friday. I'm trying to form a team for the annual bowling fundraiser thats held for Big Brothers/Big Sisters, I have 3 of 5 members (anyone want to travel for a good cause? I'll buy pizza!). My brother who is in Iraq's fire team helped rescue a a little girl's puppy that got wounded by an IED. The unemployment rate has hit almost 13% locally but 45,000 people (out of maybe 200,000) were willing to donate money to the charities sponsored by this year's St. Patricks Day parade. Then there are the small every day occurances like people helping a total stranger (Read that as me) stranded on the middle of the highway at 12:30 at night. Yeah I think there is a chance; usually when things seem the worst is when we are at our best.
