Which of the great apes do you feel closest to?

Genetically we are closest to chimpanzees, but to be honest when I look at an orang utan I get more of a sense of personality coming across.
So which do you feel are most like us?
Gorillas, unlike chimps they're not so stupid violent. Much calmer species.

Gorillas eat their poop and vomit (and sometimes vomit up their poop after eating it to re-re-eat), so definitely they're our closest relatives.
EDIT: Or at least they're the closest relatives of the Japanese.

And I guess this thread has arrived after you read the similarly titled New Scientist article?

That's why I would like to be closer to a gorilla, and I fear that we humans are closer to chimpanzees instead.
Why aren't Bonobos on the list? They're the closest relatives after all...
And probably smarter (http://songweaver.com/info/bonobos.html) than people ;)
Regardless, I went with orangutans on the poll: Solitary but still more intelligent than absolutely necessary ;)

Yeah, that too. They shine is because they're coated in the ejaculate of every other northerner in the building.
My son's hair seems to have been inherited from orangutans given that it sticks straight up. Given his attempts to taste everything and climb everything as well, I have to say that I'm probably living with an orangutan and feel rather close to him. ;)

As for me: mountain gorilla. I can pull the same 'generally just annoyed at everything' face that they do so well.

I you're claiming that we're less stupidly violent than chimps, you're way off track. We just have better technology.
Of the chimps, the bonobos are the most like us in their expression of sexuality.

Okay sorry everybody about the lack of bonobo in the poll - is it possible to edit polls?
i actually feel closer to prosimians such as limurs, and or nonprimate predicessors to sintient people on other worlds (especially worlds where the dominent sentients are decended from large green furred cats). also several, very smart and possibly even wise, not even pro simian life forms on this planet, such as red pandas, coyote, wolf, fishing cat, and again their e.t. equivelant.
Orangutans, as you say, have such personality. Maybe that's just my imagination, maybe it's just how their facial bones are arranged or something, but I've always felt like orangutans are more expressive and...I don't know...soulful?
Plus they're orange, which, like, AWESOME!

The behavior of chimpanzees is more similar to that of humans than the behavior of the other apes is. Bonobos are admirable, but possibly the least like us.
