And who would think, now, that someday it was a joke...

Or, rather, who could think these days that the government will someday, not so far away, actually throw money around in trillions.

Shit, they could just send every worker in America around $7,000 or so...I bet that would get the recession over with a hell of a lot faster than bailing out AIG and other failed banks. Personally speaking, I could buy a new laptop and a shit ton of cigarettes and alcohol with that kind of money.

Someone clearly doesn't understand what happens when everyone gets loads of money.

In a Depression? They save. Although, to be fair, at least half the people who got the money wouldn't be that smart.:D

Actually, no.

The trillion this package is around by now, if spread among the 150,000 American workers, would be $7,000 each. Remember, not everyone is a worker, babies, children and retirees aren't.

If you want spending, do that.

Let's see how that works in perspective:

1. If you want to spend a trillion dollars, at 1 million dollars a day, it would take you 1 million days, or about 2739 years.

2. If you want to spend it all in about.. 50 years.. you would need to spend roughly 55 million /day.
Have fun ;)

Note that we define trillion as 10^12 here.

No. That's a billion. A trillion looks more like this: $1,000,000,000,000,000,000.

Late on October 28th, 2008. For reference, on october 28th the USD was 251 Billion ZWD, and on november 8th the USD was 663 Trillion ZWD. Yes, that means prices doubled EVERYDAY.

That's 99% unemployment, which is even worse.

And $1 trillion spread amongst those 150,000 workers would be $7,000,000 apiece, not $7,000.

you sure you want that? Think about it: You might have 7 million dollars but you'd also have 150 million unemployed, poor, desperate, people surrounding you. What chance do you think you'd have in getting that cheque to the bank with body and soul intact?

This one (http://aes.iupui.edu/rwise/banknotes/hungary/HungaryP137-1milliardBpengo-1946_f-donated.jpg) combines milliard and B. for non-US-billion, for a total of 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 pengő, that's 1 trilliard world or 1 sextillion US.
So the world wins, as it can name much larger numbers. :D

a whole lot of pieces of paper, that by themselves would be nearly worthless.

sort of like very watered down soup.

basically it takes this many trillions to cover what mere millions did not more then a century ago. the lesson here is that money isn't wealth or value, but REPRESENTS wealth or value, so the more dollars you have chasing the same real value, basically you've just got paper.

i know about other nation's economies having a vested intrest in keeping the dominant one afloat, but even that isn't quite the simple absolute so often aluded to.
