....in Anime style?
George Miller, the man who directed the first three Mad Max films, told MTV that a new movie is planned, but it will be a 3-D animated piece. He refused to confirm who would voice the postapocalyptic road warrior, but when asked about Gibson, he said: "We'll probably go a different route." The plot for Mad Max 4 will be lifted from a planned live-action version which was abandoned in 2003 when financing fell through.

Miller said the project would now be in the Japanese anime style. "I've always loved anime, in particular the Japanese sensibility," he said. "It's something I've always wanted to do."

Now I did think the third was shite meself, and doubt an animation will be any use but poxy Anime will drag it to a real low. How the fuck can you do max as a big-eyed androgynous yokey, surrounded by other big-eyed androgynous yokes? Wheres the dirt, the leather?

You know, they REALLY should have stopped at Road Warrior.

Thunderdome was just milking it.

This... This is just pushing it off the damn cliff.

Maybe if they did the cartoon "Heavy Metal" style. You could probably make it gritty enough. Punk rock is kind of an easy look to make up. Mostly leather, chains, weird hair wait I am starting to see a parallel.

It could be worse. They could do it Sin City/300 style...

Eh, this could easily be done through anime. I'd be much more worried about the actual plot and voice acting than the fact it's going to be anime, which has shown itself to have a relatively large range of visual style.

Not all anime is liek that. There are some examples with much more realistic visual style.

However, I just don't see Mad Max mixing with animation. Many things, but not Max. It doesn't have the cuteness factor, obviously; it doesn't have the Search For Deeper Meaning factor; it doesn't need beyond-realism capabilities; and it's just not the kind of thing to need the style. Mad Max is about gritty detailed realism, not abstractions.
And while 2D anime does offer some good opportunities, 3D just doesn't cut it. Not for faces.

On the other hand, seeing as Mad Max 2 had nothing at all to do with Mad Max (1), it's kinda not very unexpected.
It's also worth mentioning that a typical anime series, whole 26 episodes, has the same budged as a single episode of good live action TV show. Thus, the budget for an animated movie can be negligible compared to that for a live action one. It may be that the budget for a live action movie isn't available. And seeing as Joss has continued his three high-budget TV shows in low-budget comics (cheaply drawn even for comics), that's understandable.

They'll mess it up like Speed Racer.

What? Speed Racer != anime. No one knows what the fuck style that even was, but it definitely wasn't anime. o.O

Really? Big eyes, static backgrounds, monologues in profile, wild takes, 'action line' backgrounds and "Unh!" reaction shots, the classic quintet of Hero (Speed), Antihero (Racer X), Girl (Trixi), Big Guy (Dad), and Little Guy (Spritle)...seems pretty anime to me...all it needs is a giant robot and some questionable sexual overtones and it'd be over the top.

300 is a terrible film and you have no taste.

Also if you want to see high quality post-apocalyptic action, look no further than Damnation Alley, now available on Youtube in 10 parts - it's got the guy who played Hannibal in the A-Team in it!

Appleseed: Ex Machina, Megazone 23 pt 2, etc... and animation allows for better effects with a lower budget.

300 is a terrible film and you have no taste. considering (s)he said it could be worse, they could do it like 300 means that 300 is considered to be a terrible film. ;)

Not completely true. Ever heard of Fist of the North Star? Has a much different visual style, and inspired by Mad Max. A lot of manga have a surprisingly different visual style than what people expect. It's probably still not gonna be any good, but...

maybe a 3d fist of the north star style.

the guy is old he could be referring to older style anime.

the main problem is Japan will be once again filled with people dressed like road warriors. have to cancel my yearly trip that year.
