Middle Name Pride Day - A Non-Holiday

Yes, according to this article, tomorrow is Middle Name Pride Day. After seeing some of the middle names some people have been saddled with, I don't feel so bad about mine, as old-fashioned as it is. My middle name is Louise - neither bad, nor uncommon; is yours odd, crazy, something you'd rather forget or do you, like some people, go by your middle name because your first name just sucks?

Alan. It's the masculine version of my mothers first name (Alice), and the spelling is evidently taken from Alan Alda

I absolutely hate my first name with a passion. I hate it to the point that I never put it down when I got married. I used just my middle name and my husband's last name. I love my middle name. It's short and it doesn't have any god connotations to it.

Francis. I suppose it makes my full name sound better, when I use the initial instead, but I'm no fan. At the very least, I'm glad it isn't an ordinary, nondescript middle name, like Frank.:D

My middle name is Part IV: The Reckoning.
It could be worse, my father's middle name is Part III: In Space. His father before him was Part II: The Return.

And before anyone decides to act like their clever by pointing out that Part IV: The Reckoning doesn't start with an N, H N is my first name.

I would mind having Frank as any part of my name. So... I don't know, not common, but plain. And I imagine that your impediment would make introducing yourself hard.

"Hello, my name is *indistinct mumbling*"
"Hmm?"
"MY name is *more indistinct mumbling*"
"Speak up, I can't hear you name!"
"My name is *Very loud mumbling*!!"

I'm a fan of using the maiden name of mothers as last names. It seems very dignified.
If not that, then "The." It would be especially good if the child had an occupational last name, like "Frank The Smith," or "Lewis The Cartwright," or "Bob The Builder." Okay, maybe not the last one, but the rest would be cool.

Both real.

To add some context, Nicholas Barbon's father was Praise-God Barebone [note different spelling], a radical Fifth Monarchist, and the man after whom Barebone's Parliament - the body set up by Oliver Cromwell after the dissolution of the Rump Parliament - was named.

The Fifth Monarchists were a Puritan group that believed that Jesus would return in 1666 to rule the world to inaugurate His thousand year kingdom on earth. The four previous monarchies in their reckoning were the Assyrian, Persian, Greek, and Roman.

They were active in Parliamentary circles during the English Civil War. They eventually collapsed when, following the restoration of Charles II, one of their leaders (though not Praise-God, who had been arrested for treason following the Restoration) attempted to gain control of London in the name of 'King Jesus' - at the head of only 50 followers.

All of which sort of explains how Nicholas ended up with the name 'Nicholas Unless-Jesus-Christ-Had-Died-For-Thee-Thou-Hadst-Been-Damned Barbon'

I have two middle names, one quite popular, the other almost archaic.
I like them both though.
My first name was of my fathers choosing, and though not unusual, somewhat rare.
My first middle name is the popular one, and the one my mother initially wanted to name me. It was so popular in fact, that from 1-6 grade, I had three other people with that name in my class alone.
My second middle name is after my fatherĀ“s father.
And I have had two last names all in all, being born out of wedlock and all.
The first was from my mothers side, a very rare and unusual version of a very common last name.
And my present one, a very common last name. So common that 4 families in my neighborhood share it.

I ended up with Andrew. Why, we do not know. My father gave it to me and no one ever got around asking him where he got it from. However, due to my first and last names, my initials end up spelling out the first three letters of my first name. I always wanted to know if my dad planned it that way or it just happened.
