Inspired by a few recent threads, I have a question for you.

Some say all women are pedophiles. I know no "all X are Y" statement about people is completely true, but how much sense is there in this particular one?

Also, I expect not many people will think odd things about women who REALLY like to hug children, whereas men who behave that way are at a high risk of being seen as potential rapists. So as long as they don't do any "bad touching", women could easily get away with it...

Thoughts?

It's a "joke" I have heard many times, usually by men referring to women almost drooling about how cute a baby or toddler is.

I can't speak for others, but I do know. I also know how to use a dictionary to check if my definition is right. A pedophile is someone who has sex with children, or wants to have it, or enjoys fantasies about it.

I know that hugging an attractive person of appropriate age and gender while thinking about sex is quite enjoyable. I expect a female pedophile could easily get away with the exact same behavior (towards someone of inappropriate age) whereas a male couldn't. Worse, a male who doesn't have sexual feelings towards children but who just likes to hug and play is quite likely to be accused of being a pedophile.

I get that bald men look like babies (other people would say they look like... something that causes babies... never mind), but I don't know enough about emo to understand that part. Does it explain the existence of emo kids, or do emo kids like older men?

Well, it's the pair-bonding hormone, and as a chemical, it does it's job indiscriminately. In those whose sense of societal propriety is...underdeveloped...this can be problematic.

Perhaps there is a serious side to this thread in that women are almost never considered suspicious when with children, whereas men are much more readily. I don't know what the statistics are for genders in paedophilia, though child protection measures in this country seem to suggest that no-one can be trusted with a child.

If they are with children whom they are talking to or touching or something, they obviously can't be actually feeling friendly or fatherly or affectionate towards the child, because they are male. Therefore, they must be paedophiles.

"Quite likely"? I don't know where you live, but on my planet, fathers hug their kids, uncles hug their nieces and nephews, grandfathers hug their grandkids, and a simple hug does not bring about an accusation of pedophilia. I'm not sure if you're trying to be funny, inflammatory or both.

I'll just make the observation that all the acceptable hugging males you mention are relatives of the child. Of course it isn't acceptable for random female strangers to hug a kid out of the blue either, however... A somewhat odd looking male who just *talks* to kids (just like many women would), or a random male passer-by who tries to help/comfort a kid with a skinned knee, does have to fear the "OMG PEDO!" response from other adults. Friends of parents, teachers, and ministers all are examples of people that would be judged differently based on their gender.

I dunno how justified that tendency to accuse males is, perhaps it is. FWIW, I don't remember any women saying or doing any inappropriate things to me when I was a kid, but I do remember men... All of them strangers, too, which IIRC doesn't match statistics. (Don't worry, nothing traumatizing. One guy offered mutual masturbation, another touched my rear (and got punched by me in response))

People have a misunderstanding of the civil rights movements for minorities and for gender and sexual orientation. Apparently, they seem to think this: "women, gays, blacks, etc., fought for these rights. Therefore, they are better than the people who restricted them." This eventually leads to a compoundingly misunderstood definition of "equality". People don't seem to realize that equality means "the same as others", not "better than the oppressors." Women are as capable as men to have sexual feelings for children, not more so, not less so. Therefore, it's unfair to male sex offenders that women can get off so easily whenever they are caught having sex with minors.

I don't really get why so many of those teachers got off so easy...

I don't think that was what he was trying to say. He was saying that while a woman who may be a pedophile could hug a child and get away with it, where as a male who isn't a pedophile could simple hug a child and some people could think he is a pedophile if they see him doing it continuously.
