We just finished one of the longest presidential campaigns in history and they want to start again. We need a law that will prevent these clowns from starting a campaign until 24 months or less before the general election.

Thatd probably be a good move by Republicans, he'd actually be tough to beat, because he is generally smarter than the average bear, unlike the majority of popular right-wing candidates...

It makes waaaay too much sense for a Republican though, so I dont think he'll get it, lol...

The Presidential campaigns start so early because of the legal nature of Presidential campaigns. Blame the system.

I seem to recall Gingrich supporting some good ideas for the space program. Beyond that, I haven't heard much about him, but as long as he doesn't suck Rush's balls, he'll probably be better than the current GOP leadership.

Newt Gingrich is the father of the modern Republican Party. Contract with America, anyone?

Gingrich already tried to lead the party and it openly revolted against him. Why does anyone think he'd be more successful a second time around?

Seriously, McCain is not bad! Compared to most politicians, he's actually somewhat trustworthy!

But I completely agree about the rest of 'em. Actively trying to make sure we never win an election again.

newt put up a trial balloon this last time and there was no interest in the party for having him be their nominee.

this was his last chance. in '12 he'll be 69 years old. thats too old to be president.

They got a look at the new Republicans and decided, apparently, he's the least stupid. Seriously, all they ever say about the Newtser is that he "has ideas." His ideas all suck, but still, it speaks poorly of the rest of them.

And this may be the only time I have ever agreed with the OP about anything. There should be a law restricting campaign season. We're not allowed to shoot ducks all year long -- why should they get to hunt us and our votes whenever they want?

I don't think tossed out is the right wording. He was re-elected, announced that he would not seek to be re-elected Speaker, then resigned his seat before the new Congress convened.

The news made it look like it was over the loss of 5 seats in the House, but I'm sure there's more dirt behind the decision.

More to the point, he has a lot of baggage, but his leadership of the House during his tenure as Speaker isn't part of it.

And even more to the point, I really think elected officials need to concentrate on governing for at least 3/4s of their terms. Then switch gears to the campaign.

Well, he's not stupid. He's a highly educated man and a skilled politician. He's also a world class scumbag. ;)

Apparently the GOP is certain the Obama Administration is a failure. So they'll propose to replace it with... more of the same old shit that got Obama elected to begin with.

True, and Im not saying Id vote for the man, cause Republican policies are generally anathema for me, but when considering what future theoretical course they should take, I often assume they will lose in 2012, because Obama is not going to fail to the point that his numbers fall enough to lose the election...

Therefore, Id use the opportunity to change the image of the party, rather than actually try and play to their base, which, to me, would make Gingrich a good choice, since, although I dont like his policies, he's a generally good speaker, and is unlikely to make the kind of gaffs that the Palin/Jindal types would make...

Other than he divorced his dying wife before she actually passed on? Not much.

Seriously, how does someone who treats people -- his wife -- like that lay any claim to the leadership of a party so willing to kow-tow to the moral majority?

He also admitted to cheating on his second wife during the Clinton Scandal during which he remained in his Ivory Tower(banging his mistress) long enough to homestead it.

And he was one of the voices screaming the loudest for impeachment right? Notice how Republicans have a pattern of getting caught doing things they condemn publically?

I think of him as more of a maverick; he goes against his party sometimes because that's the way he wants something done. I couldn't say he's trust worthy because he hasn't change his mindeset fitting what this country needs. I wonder if he's helping Obama (in a way) within the Republican party ...

On the main topic, there are some people who couldn't wait for Obama's term to end. Maybe it's those people that might spring Gingrich up (until the actual campaign begins). Typically, if the people feels that the president running for re-election did a good job during his term, they would keep him.

I think from listening to McCain now that the election is over all that crap he sprouted was just a deperate attempt to become presdient now that he was old and it would be his first and last chance. He seens liked a resonable man who was desperate and thats all. Sure it doesn't make what he did right but at least he willing to work with Obama and not just yell "NO NO NO1!!1!"

Gingrich would be a decent republican. read his book contract with earth, I find his environmental plan to be far more feasible then say Gore's.
Most of his issues with the republican party came because he was a limelight hog. Congress the house in particular is a team game. insist on sponsoring too many bills and your team mates tend to get angry. Andrew Jackson found this out.

The one red flag why i think he could not successfully run is because he was trying to impeach Clinton for having an affair, when he himself was having an affair.

Also like he is tight with spending rather then a spending whore.

What plan is that? The gist of what I heard him say is that we eliminate regulation and give money for better "technology".

Free market principles will not save the environment. Problem is there are far too many businessmen that would take the money keep things the way they are.

On a matter completely unrelated to the one he was being subpoenaed for.
