Are any of you a Freemason?

Are there any Freemasons in NSG? I know that they meet weekly, do charity work (and are extremely secretive).

It would be nice if any Freemasons can give first hand experiences/introduction to what they do, and perhaps their interpretation of their belief in God as a requirement to join the society :D

Actually, they aren't that secretive. My father was one; 99% of what they do is entirely open. They just keep certain rituals and rites secret from outsiders, and from what I can see that's just holdover from previous periods (when such societies were persecuted and had to exist underground).

Not a Mason, but I was in Job's Daughters, a Masonic sponsored organization for young women. Somewhat similar - some secret rituals, kind of like a sorority, lots of charity work and social networking.

What do you have to do to become a Freemason?

Not much all you have to do is believe in God (and it doesn't even have to be the Cristian God), go to masses, there are a few vows and rites you have to recite and that is pretty much it. In order to remain you join a lodge depending on what best fits in with your timetable (afternoon, evening, dinner) and pay the fees for that lodge. Dinner lodges are the most expensive, th entire myth that one must be related from a freemason is BS. JUst make sure you continue to attend the lodge meetings and work on rising up through th ranks and becoming members of the various orders they have. The younger you are the higher you will be able to move up and will be able to get invited to the more selective orders.

I bet there are. They are everywhere!

I know that they meet weekly, do charity work (and are extremely secretive).

The charity work is a cover-up to make us think of them as harmless eccentrics.

The only requirement is to be stupid enough to join a mysterious organization associated with conspiracies throughout the ages. If anyone reads this thread and joins, just don't blame me when you find yourself possessed and controlled by Jewish lizardmen.

To be a member of the lodge my father was in, you had to believe in a god/religion (doesn't really matter which - we had Jews, Hindus, Christians, and my father was a Deist), be sponsored by an existing member, be 21 or over and take the vows.

I could have joined at 18 as the son of a member.

That may be by the Catholic church not if that is true or not, freemasons don't mind Catholics joining. Why? Because they to believe in a god.

Freemasons fascinate people due to their mystery, and the conspiracy myths associated with them, but I doubt they're any more interesting than the Boy Scouts. Why people feel this need to be a member of a club is beyond me; bars are more than enough for anybody!

Besides you spend how much of your life working for lizardmen at your job... now you want to socialize with them on your time off? Sure you may get a few favors, a promotion here or there, mabey even become 'elected' leader of a country or two. But at what price? You have to hang out with a bunch of lying dipshits - the type of people who become lawyers, judges and politicians.

If you want to join a seclusive criminal organization why not just join the mob or the hells angels. Besides I'd much prefer the company

The depends on what sort of business you want connections to. I, for one, know the head of the east coast's largest cement shoe manufacturer. I doubt many Free Masons can make that claim.
And if you're interested in leather jackets and empty beer cans, then the Hell's Angels can fix you up like nothing else.

Don't forget weed & coke. Hells Angels are definitely good people to know if you want either.

Besides, despite all the murder, rape and being white supremacists their less evil than the Freemasons. Just don't be female, non-white or owe them money and you should get along fine with them.

I've heard that about Mormons too but as I've never tried to join the Masons I don't know for sure. I do know Mormons are discouraged by the Church from becoming Masons, although there's no actual prohibition of it.

My Great Grandfather (dad's side) was Grand Master, my uncle is a 33rd Degree Mason or something to that effect (just shy of being a Master Mason), my other great grandfather was a Master Mason, and my great grandmother was a member of Eastern Star (the women's organization).

What do you have to do to become a Freemason?

You have to be invited by a present Mason to attend a meeting, then you have to have a background check (its all ancient stuff, hardly applicable today in most cases): basically you have to have been born a free man, no former slaves can join, you have to believe in God or some higher power, and there are some other things that you have to nod and agree with pretty much.

I've heard that about Mormons too but as I've never tried to join the Masons I don't know for sure. I do know Mormons are discouraged by the Church from becoming Masons, although there's no actual prohibition of it.

Depends on where you're at. Whether you can join or not is based on the regional prejudices. Where I'm from, a Mormon trying to join the Masonry would be laughed at because their religion is a farce and a fantastic joke. I am, of course, from the south and the majority of the people here are Southern Baptists, at least the people with any semblance of power and authority. But in a more liberal and "progressive" region, they might not have a problem with it. *shrug*

What else do you want to know?

I`ve had family members involved with the Masons, Grandpa was a 33rd Degree Mason. I`ve got the 'pedigree' to get in, I want no part of it.

The cloak and dagger rituals, riding the goat innitiations and the illusion of doing good for the community. All the work I`ve witnessed the Local Lodge do was for themselves, fundraising for their new hall. I`d rather join the Anti-Horse Theif Association but they`ve all but dried up around here.

I have an unfortunate habit of owing people money. Also, I have a horrible sense of balance, and so would probably topple off of a motorcycle as soon as I sat on it, so I'll stick with the mob. If anyone is known for their understanding nature and flexible repayment plans, it is organized crime.

No, the people who are against horse thieves have gone sober, the horse thieves themselves are still too drunk to realize that there haven't been any horses in the area for about 70 years.

Just a question about the repeated idea of having to believe in "God" to join the Masons; Gerald Gardner was a mason and he founded Wicca (probably with the help of other masons and co-masons such as Edith Woodford Grimes). Does being a polytheist and having views on religion which do clash with more conservative, traditional ideas make it more unlikely to be a freemason? It's just that you keep talking about God, but here theres an example of at least one polytheist mason.
