My dad works on a mobile drilling platform in the Gulf of Thailand. The rig is laid up in a port around there and apparently the place is crawling with tankers and cargo ships that don't have anywhere to go anymore. Less than a year ago those same ships couldn't get unloaded fast enough in Chinese ports.

I'd like a supertanker if they're going cheap loaded with oil, I don't know what i'd do with it but it takes having one to see the potential.

With luck, the oil prices will continue to fall. Hello <$2 gasoline!

And yet, I have my doubts.. rising oil prices are enough to jack the cost of gas, but plummeting prices, well thats a different story altogether.

Let's not get cocky. All it takes is the oil producing nations severely cutting back on extraction and the price will begin to skyrocket like accusations of Obama Administration failures.

we have been less then 2 a gallon for awhile here in Texas. another price dip and I say it will be less then 1.50 a gallon again.

the problem with that is if they cut back on production the out of work workers might try to over throw the regimes. that's why they tend to store oil rather then not produce at all.

They take credit when times are good. They deserve the blame when times are bad.

Eh I wouldn't be gloating. If we can't even move oil (a product that has always been in high demand, even when we cut back), then our economic woes may be deeper than we thought.

Unfortunately, Long Island seems to have the highest prices in the nation -- right now it's still over $2.00. :(

And the europeans could use a price cut too.

that's largely because of two factors.

1. Taxes. New york city Taxes the hell out of oil. only place i have seen a thriving black market in oil in the states. when i drove there I never filled up at a station my local friend just called his friends with a small tanker to come sell me oil on the cheap.

2. in the case of the Europeans the euro has lost some ground to the dollar. not much but enough to affect the price in euros.

this is the time of year they do maintenance on the refineries so they operate at slightly lower capacity which raises the gasoline/crude ratio.

I wonder what sort of boom a supertanker filled with oil makes?
Probably a rather unimpressive one, more like a fart followed by slow burning fire and deadly fumes, but it would still be fun to find out.
