That Halo vs GoldenEye thread and the recent release of Killzone 2 got me thinking, what's your favourite FPS? It can be a single game or series.
I'm gonna go with Call of Duty, because of the awesome controls and who doesn't like killing Nazis.
I may add a pole.

Counter Strike Source. It's relatively balanced, simple the graphics are decent and its just downright addictive and replayable
Call of Duty is up there. As is Half Life 2.
I've played the demo for Killzone 2 and it has convinced me the game will be amazing. So that could be on my tops list.
Resistance is alright.
Far Cry 2's controls seemed a bit clunky. I don't know why, they just did.
Those are the FPS's I own at the moment.
German Nightmare

I like playing Wolfenstein - Enemy Territory a lot.
Sure, it's an older FPS, but then again, so is my computer and most newer games simply won't run anymore.
Knights of Liberty

The Doom series.
And the original FEAR.
hmmm...
depends on what you mean by shooter.
FPS: Doom and Unreal tournament.
FPS that doesn't include a gun? Fatal Frame.
part of another genre of game? D2 once I got the hunting rifle, the rest of the game was forgotten.

I kinda don't like the controls for KZ2. Other than that it's good though.

EDIT: s.t.a.l.k.e.r. is fine too
Bioshock and the last Might and magic game (something with messiah in the title), the second was a really surprise for me when it came to quality so that may be the reason I like it so much. FPS tend to age quick, so although their are older shooters that i really liked I wouldn't play them again cause they then I would loose the nostalgia.

Yeah, good graphics, but there is not enough of guns (at least not where I live) and the physics is so unrealistic. You die if you like fall 12 meters and you can't jump more then 2 meters up in the air. Not to speak about the car physics, its to hard to do a 360 and when you crash the car it just fall apart.

Lately I've been drinking double whisky sour lowballs, though I'm moving to shots of bar whisky with a half-pint stout chaser.

I always kind of liked Wolfenstein 3 and Deus Ex.
I have played Line of Sight which is interesting but it has a fatal flaw. You can hide in the jungle border of the play area and never be noticed or shot at.

I have fond memories of the first two Timesplitters. Dicking around with my brother and High School friends, shooting zombies and elvises and fish people, that sort of thing. "You can't snipe with a shotgun;" "I have somehow attached a remote detonating mine to my own ass;" and "How do you not see a lake? It takes up the whole horizon?"
Most replayed would probably Return to Castle Wolfenstein or Doom.

HalfLife Series, Half Life 2 in particular. Amazing from start to finish.
CoD is nice, but I prefer my games fiction. The Suffering, while offering FPS as a secondary control scheme, is very good.

And no, you shouldn't add poles, because wodka and tequila don't mix.

Timesplitters was a good lot of fun and mayhem galore (: have fond memories of playing that with a few friends co-op and the multiplayer (always loved co-op story-based games). Goldeneye was great fun but Perfect Dark was the most fantasmastic FPS fun I had when I was at school - so customisable plus the ai bots were really a great idea.
Lately, I play Fallout3 for the shooty shooty fun - firing mini-nukes is just far too much fun ;P I also am currently enjoying a nice little playtime fun on Planetside.

I tend to agree. The Call of Duty franchise is one of the best made. I have felt that, despite the later games having relatively short levels and all, the campaigns were realistic and generally well designed.

I would have to say COD3 & 2 were my first real FPS. But Quake muitplayer on the 64 was the greatest fun ever. Then of course who doesn't like Golden Eye?
Those personally I think the Ghost Recon series suck ass. The graphics are alright and the storyline isn't bad but the A.I (including your teammates are dumb and often get stuck) not to forget the game always seen so linear without being able to hide it like other FPS.
