Random observation: take a look at the following two google searches
http://www.google.co.uk/search?source=ig&hl=en&rlz=&q=googleplex&btnG=Google+Search&meta=lr%3D
http://www.google.com/search?client=opera&rls=en&q=googleplex&sourceid=opera&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8
in the first, the blue of the links is #0029ee
and in the second its #0033cc
i'm pretty sure the UK search colour used to be the same as the .com one. the whole page looks brighter.
am i the only one to notice this, does anyone else care, and/or has it always been this way and i only just saw it?

They look the same to me. You guys must have a neurological problem. :p (*US Google)
What probably happened was they updated something and for some reason whatever digital graphics guy was rebuilding the logo uses a different blue, which is only slightly different from the original one, and he didn't feel like sourcing the original. Another possibility is that the original blue color is no longer available in whatever location we're talking about and was substituted by the other color, so when the graphics get updated, the substitute blue is used. I'll be nobody at Google UK even noticed the difference.
It's just Pantone's usual arcane hijinks.

OSHI- PM, I was told this event would happen one day. Get as much food and barricade your door and windows immediately, no time to explain. Don't bother trying to save your friends or family, it's too late. Focus on staying alive, you can get through this! Just do what I say and you wont be harmed!

No comment about how the top of each page is different?

For example, it's Googlemail for the UK version and Gmail in the American... (and ignore the tabs, I was too lazy to make it neat).

That's simple. Brits are just too retarded to understand that the G in Gmail stands for Google.
There was already a company called gmail in the UK, google was forced to change theirs.

I was stating it as an example. I already knew there was a difference, but I was wondering why of all the things to notice, the OP was noting the colour of the font more than anything else.

Any changes to Google will almost certainly start on the most used localisation (the US one) then be rolled out.
Who knows why Google's changed the font colour. Perhaps it's the first baby step towards and incremental brand overhaul.

oh yeah, but that's not crazy colour-changing new news though. in a nerdy way i'm quite glad i got a gmail.com account before they switched over to googlemail.com in the UK :p

This. :D
Google.com.au (http://www.google.com.au/search?hl=en&q=googleplex&meta=) seems to have the same colour as google.com
The color appears the same to me. Maybe my eyes just aren't as sensitive to such glaring errors.

The color is different. I don't like it.
Where are my old man glasses and pen, I need to write several complaining letters to the editors of various publications who have no connection to Google whatsoever. I shall start with Cat Fancy magazine ...

Emmm, it's just a gradation of blue. No biggie.
I couldn't tell the difference, but that might be because the monitor here isn't quite what you'd call optimized, unlike mine at home.
