Long story short, I'm an idiot.
Okay, that's out of the way,
I purchased a new netbook/miniature laptop thingy. I need to install Windows XP onto an SD card to make it run, simply, how does one do this?

Unless you have an expanded bios that supports booting from SD slots, you won't be able to. If you do have such an expanded bios, check your motherboard documentation for how to do it.

this. though bios often supports booting from USB devices these days, so you might be able to use a usb card reader as a getaround. not ideal though, i'm sure. i use ubuntu from a usb thumb drive sometimes http://www.pendrivelinux.com/ubuntu-810-persistent-flash-drive-install-from-live-cd/
if/when it works, it should be picked up as a drive to which you can install windows after booting from the CD
