Paul Harvey...Good day.

Cannot think of a name
02-03-2009, 23:52
Almost sixty years ago a man with a distinctive voice and characteristic delivery started a radio broadcast career with news and notes before eventually evolving into a trademark and popular (at one point 24 million listeners, including me in my dad's car as a kid-I would love these stories and often do impressions of him) series telling anecdotes about famous people.

That man died yesterday at the age of 90, leaving a lengthy and distinguished radio career. I don't agree with him on a lot of things, but I loved his program as a kid.

That man's name...

...was Paul Harvey.

And now you know...

...The rest
of the story.

Bah. If he had a more splendid beard than the late Bill Frindall I'll be shocked.

I still remember listening to him with my grandmother as a young child.

R.I.P. Paul Harvey.:(

Regardless of beliefs, this guy and his wife were the duo that, by and large, created the modern American radio format. I'd daresay that that's quite an achievement. Much condolences to his fam.

I remember listening to him as a kid on car trips...my father even bought a couple of his 'The Rest of the Story' books.

The man will be missed. I used to tune in to KABC twice a day just to catch his news reports and "The Rest of the Story".

BTW: did you know that he also had a TV program back in the early '50's? (Not that I ever saw it *heh* )

He lived a long, fulfilling life. He is with his wife now, hopefully at peace.

You said it, brother.

I'd been wondering why his son, Paul Harvey Jr. and Mike Huckabee had been doing the show the last few months.

The phrase "end of an era" is overused, but appropriate here. He'll be missed.
