Ever "lost" a game?

Ever lost a game, or played something, somewhere, and can't find it again?
Instead of looking for it all on your own,
why not broaden the search AND the people searching for it?
Basically, you can post about games you look for here,
and remember to add as much info you can,
and hope someone, somewhere out there have played it as well.
And perhaps know more about it, and where to find it.

I will start out with my own lost game.

----
Here it goes;

For the last 7-8 years I have been looking for an old game I played around 2000.
I think it was called Magus.
The search has been made harder because two games with similar names has popped up recently.
One flash and the other being a kids game.
Those are not the ones I´m looking for though.

This game was a 2D, top-down view, rogue/dungeon crawl similar, dos or maybe win game.
It could be either Free or shareware, I´m not entirely certain.
I think one started out choosing a class and name,
and you began in close proximity to a brown log cabin or house.

The most unique about it was that everything you could interact with (items, enemies, yourself, etc) was displayed on/as bricks.
If you saw an item for example, it would be on a square piece representation.
The bricks might have had dark brown borders and light brown background.
Though now that I think about it, those might be the standard colors,
and more advanced/better items could be in other colors.

The game world itself was huge, and had forests, lakes, rivers, grass fields, mountains, houses and even caverns in the mountains and some underground I think.

I also seem to remember that one had to gather better equipment (and level up I think?) in order to fight some dark lord or other menacing final boss,
though I never got that far.
It was very difficult, since you could not anticipate the enemies strength.

And finally, when you died, you came to a high-score list where you could measure your progress with your earlier tries.

I appreciate any answers, and if you have any glimmer of what it could be,
but something does not correspond accurately,
ask, and I shall do my best to clarify as much as possible.
Note that any info in here might be warped due to nostalgia and "over-written" memory. ,)

Now lets hear about your games!

Was your game based on ASCII or actual graphics ?

EDIT: the magus.zip here perhaps ? http://files.chatnfiles.com/Power-Dos-96/GAMES/ROLEPLAY/00_INDEX.HTM

No idea if the site is trustworthy.

It was not ASCII.
More along the lines of IVAN, if you have heard of it?
http://ivan.sourceforge.net/screenshots.html

But with smoother graphics and interactive´s as bricks/tiles.

EDIT: YYYEESSSS .....THANK YOU!!!
Thank you..so..sooo.very much..that was it..Finally.
How can I ever repay you??

And just being curious here,
but how did you find/come across it?

I googled on "magus dos rpg"

One of the hits was this: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=787673, which contained the link: http://files.chatnfiles.com/Power%20DOS%20July%201996/GAMES/ROLEPLAY/magus.zip

That link however no longer worked. So I went to http://files.chatnfiles.com/, clicked the Power-Dos-96/, games... and voila :p

Googling on "where can I find magus ?" would also have worked.

When I was much younger (sometime between september 1990 and june 1992) I remember a game I played at school a couple times. It was similar to Battle of Olympus (in particular, I remember how you could change locations as will), but it took place in the far east (Japan I think; maybe china) and the hero was either a ninja or a samurai. It was on a console, but I'm pretty sure it was NOT a Nintendo console.

I also remember an arcade shmup (shoot-em-up; think Gradius) where the ship flew upwards and gained up to four companions. There was a button or something that'd change it between being them being seperate companions and being addons to the ship that power it up.

I'd like to find an old DOS/early windows game. Can't recall the title, but I think it was shareware. It was a strategy game played on a hexagonal grid. Sorry I can't really remember any more details. I last saw it at a friend's place some 12 years ago.

Abalone? (http://www.sharewaresoft.com/Games/Strategy-War/Abalone.html)

That's the best result I got for such a game but it's not shareware, well not from a trusted source.

ok - first I want to know how you got inside my head. I was just thinking about this the other day...

there was a great game I used to play on the computer at my husband's workplace. I cannot for the life of me remember the name, but it was a very simple game. I THINK I have remembered the basics of the game correctly.

it was based on the primary and secondary color chart. colors were lined up, and you "jumped" colors. If, for example, you had 2 reds together, you could put one red tile on the other, and they would cancel one another out. If you put a purple on a red tile, it would only cancel out the red, leaving one blue tile. you could not jump a tile w/ a different color base: red could not jump a green tile, blue could not jump an orange tile.

the goal was to get as few tiles remaining as possible. If you achieved less than a specific amount (I think it was 10 tiles), you'd go to the next level, which was simply more tiles.

This was NOT "color blocks," where the colors fall into large groups that you eliminate. This used large, individual blocks that were laid over one another. It was a very strategic game. And I remember that when you got rid of a block, it made a sound like glass breaking.

anyone have a clue what I'm talking about????

there was a game i used to play with my next-door neighbour back in about '95 where you customised your fighting robot and then duked it out in a small arena. it sounds pretty standard fare these days, but back then it was pretty epic.

i don't even remember what it was called. One Must Fall rings a bell, but every time i google that it comes up with some other game. i must be confusing the two :(

Though in all honesty, that was not my intention.
Well, not my main one..at first. ^^

Anyway, it sure is nice to see so many posts in here.
I will look up the games mentioned and see if I can find anything.

so maybe he will help out if you are lucky. ,)
