Marvelous Malia + Sweet Sasha
yesterday, i found these dolls were retired a few weeks ago. do you think they were created to be the obama girls in doll form or do you think ty just liked the names? i agree with their mama, because ty made them black, they resemble the girls and came out together. cute dolls, though. just like their namesakes.:fluffle:

Can anybody explain to me why one of his girl's has a boy's name? That's been puzzling me since I first heard the names...

Or for Alexandra.
But really, it depends on the part of the world. In some parts, it's predominantly given to males; in some parts, it's given mostly to females. The US is one of the places where it mostly goes to females (probably because of the -a ending).

ok
they were totally created to be "first children" dolls. that is why they were issued after mr obama was elected and why they agreed to take them off the market when the obamas didnt like the idea.

thanks for getting us all on topic again. i found out about them through the newspaper and their retirement online. why didn't ty ask the parents? that would've saved them a lot of grief? if someone was planning on making a doll of me or a family member, i'd want them to ask. do you think the girls know? if yes how do you think they feel?

i think they didnt ask because they didnt want it to be OFFICIAL which might have some legal/financial reprocussions.
i dont know about the girls. i expect that the obamas try to keep that kind of thing from them but its pretty hard when they go to school every day. at least its only dolls and not "your dad has destroyed america/got a blowjob in office" that the last girls had to deal with.
it must be pretty strange to go from privileged but ordinary girls to girls who live in the white house and have the jonas brothers come to play at their sleep over.

So if his daughters dolls got pulled, what's the fate of the Obama action figure with lightsaber and shotgun accessories??? Maybe he signed a release on that one?

Probably a publicity stunt. They had to change the names, but the job was done.

No, Natasha is "short" for Natalie (or Natalya in the Russian spelling); not "shorter" actually, but the -sha ending is a "diminutive" (term of endearment, especially for a child).

Sasha is the Russian diminutive of Aleksandr/Aleksandra. Most Russian diminutives are gender neutral.

Sasha is short for Alexander in Slavic countries.

they have marvelous madison and sweet sammi now. they are white girls with blue eyes. one has light brown hair, the other fair hair. one has braids, not sure about the other. saw mariah and sydney, though on the bottom banner, madison and sammi are in the store, though.

I have a "boy's" name. You got a problem with it?
Here in America where we have freedom and we can name our kids without some "ministry" having to approve it, we can break through sexism and name our girls whatever we want.

Yeah, that's... why I said it was gender neutral.

Yes, you will be renamed as 'Theodora' to show you're a girl. Freedom is only for the white men.:p

I feel like a gravedig. I can't believe Nanatsu had a dirty mind about a couple of dolls. Or was that a joke?
